The Clinical Nurse is a Registered Professional Nurse who provides safe, competent quality care based on nursing theory and research to a designated group of patients and significant others. This role involves delivering patient care by incorporating the tenets of the professional practice model of Relationship Centered Care and through the application of the nursing process. The nurse will assess and evaluate patient care needs, apply critical thinking skills, and integrate relevant assessment and intervention skills. Collaboration with the interdisciplinary healthcare team is essential for the development, implementation, and evaluation of the plan of care. Responsibilities include prioritizing patient care, educating patients and caregivers, communicating effectively, and managing assignments within the Care Delivery Model. The role also emphasizes patient experience by role-modeling Relationship Centered Care principles, considering patient values, and establishing therapeutic relationships. Quality and safety are paramount, requiring the practice of safe and efficient patient-centered care, implementation of process improvement strategies, engagement in peer review, and contribution to quality improvement projects. Operational duties include performing charge nurse duties, coordinating with management for supplies and resources, documenting accurately, and facilitating patient throughput. Professional development is encouraged through contributing to the environment of care, advancing clinical competence, projecting a professional image, incorporating ethical principles, and participating in shared decision-making. The nurse will serve as a role model and preceptor, advance as a clinical leader, and contribute to the nursing profession.
