About The Position

University of Iowa Health Care is seeking skilled staff nurses for their Nursing Float Pool (Tier 1), also known as the Enterprise Staffing Pool, for Adult Behavioral Services. These staff nurses will circulate between many units within Adult Behavioral Health Care Services at University of Iowa Health Care University Campus. They will be responsible for applying nursing theory to patient assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patient responses to health and illness. This includes assessing patient health care preferences and expectations, collaborating to coordinate the continuum of care, implementing patient care plans, and developing discharge planning. Nurses will implement interventions according to policies and procedures to maintain a safe environment and follow universal precautions. Assignments will be 'just in time' to cover census flexing, with anticipated 4-12 hour assignments in an area and the ability to float every 4 hours. Opportunities include days, nights, and weekends, with floating between many units within one hospital/specialty.

Requirements

  • 1 or more years of current experience with Psychiatric and Medical experience is required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members as demonstrated through written and verbal interactions
  • General computer skills are required, including proficiency in managing multiple databases including Microsoft Excel
  • Current license to practice nursing in Iowa is required by date of hire

Nice To Haves

  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing is highly desired
  • 2 or more years of current experience with Adult Critical Care is desired
  • CRRT trained/experience is preferred
  • Current or Prior Agency experience desired
  • If Baccalaureate degree in Nursing is not yet obtained, active enrollment in a BSN program is desirable

Responsibilities

  • Applies nursing theory to the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patient responses to health and illness
  • Assesses patient health care preferences and expectation
  • Collaboratively coordinates the continuum of care across settings socioeconomic conditions that prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes
  • Implements patient care plan according to patient priorities, which includes interventions identified through nursing diagnoses. Documents/reports interventions and patient/family response
  • Collaborates and integrates contributions of patients and families into multidisciplinary patient care plan
  • Develops, coordinates and implements transfer/discharge planning throughout episode of care.
  • Implements nursing interventions according to department, division, and/or unit policies, procedures, and protocols to maintain safe environment for patients, visitors and staff
  • Follows universal precautions
  • Just in time assignments (cover sign offs, census flexing)
  • Anticipated 4-12 hours in an area
  • Able to float every 4 hours
  • Days, nights, and weekend rotating opportunities
  • Float between many units within one hospital/specialty
