About The Position

University of Iowa Health Care is seeking skilled staff nurses for their Nursing Float Pool (Tier 2), also known as the Enterprise Staffing Pool, for Adult Critical Care Services. These staff nurses will circulate several services to cover critical care units at University of Iowa Health Care University Campus and UI Health Care Downtown Campus. The role involves applying nursing theory to patient assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation. Nurses will assess patient health care preferences and expectations, coordinate care across settings, and develop patient care plans based on patient condition, age, and socioeconomic factors. They will implement nursing interventions, document interventions and patient responses, and collaborate with patients, families, and the multidisciplinary team. The role also includes developing and implementing transfer/discharge planning and adhering to department policies and procedures to maintain a safe environment. Assignments will be 'just in time' to cover sign-offs and census flexing, with holiday and weekend requirements. Nurses will utilize a self-scheduling model and float between MCU and MCD campuses.

Requirements

  • 2 or more years of current experience with Adult Critical Care/ICU is required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members as demonstrated through written and verbal interactions
  • General computer skills are required, including proficiency in managing multiple databases including Microsoft Excel
  • Current license to practice nursing in Iowa is required by date of hire

Nice To Haves

  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing is highly desired
  • CRRT trained/experience is preferred
  • If Baccalaureate degree in Nursing is not yet obtained, active enrollment in a BSN program is desirable

Responsibilities

  • Applies nursing theory to the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patient responses to health and illness
  • Assesses patient health care preferences and expectations
  • Collaboratively coordinates the continuum of care across settings
  • Develops patient care plan based on patient condition, age, and psychological, educational, and socioeconomic conditions that prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes
  • Implements patient care plan according to patient priorities, which includes interventions identified through nursing diagnoses.
  • Documents/reports interventions and patient/family response
  • Collaborates and integrates contributions of patients and families into multidisciplinary patient care plan
  • Develops, coordinates and implements transfer/discharge planning throughout episode of care
  • Implements nursing interventions according to department, division, and/or unit policies, procedures, and protocols to maintain safe environment for patients, visitors and staff.
