About The Position

This is a unique opportunity to work closely with the new Chair of Dermatology, a Mohs surgeon, as he establishes a new clinic and expands the department’s Mohs surgery service line. The RN will play an important role in building and supporting this growing program, with the opportunity to help shape clinical workflows and patient care as the service develops. Functions in a clinical lead role in collaborative interdisciplinary team providing comprehensive care to patients and families with complex healthcare needs that may be both predictable and unpredictable. Aims to provide care that is safe, effective, patient-centered, timely, efficient, and equitable.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN) State Licensure or Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) by Texas Board of Nursing (BON) required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) by American Heart Association (AHA) required
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from an accredited School of Nursing required
  • Associate's Degree in Nursing from an accredited School of Nursing required
  • Nursing diploma (three year program) required
  • 2 years of nursing experience with a BSN required
  • 3 years of nursing experience with a Nursing Diploma required
  • 4 years of nursing experience with an ADN required
  • Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous nursing experience in dermatology, Mohs surgery, procedural care, or a related surgical specialty is preferred.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) by American Heart Association (AHA) preferred

Responsibilities

  • Performs responsibilities in a manner that promotes quality patient care and customer service/satisfaction.
  • Adheres to broad scope of practice as established by the Nurse Practice Act.
  • Assures compliance with quality standards, and regulatory and accrediting agency specifications to meet federal, state and local standards.
  • Assists clinical and administrative staff in formulating goals and objectives to meet both qualitative and quantitative outcomes.
  • Participates in the development of nursing and clinical policies procedures, and competencies. Develops and/or acquires instructional materials, supplies, and equipment necessary to conduct training continuing education and staff development.
  • Prepares and maintains records and reports concerning operations. Remains abreast of developments and evidence based practice by attending seminars and workshops, communicating with peers, and reading pertinent literature. Incorporates such advancements in continuing education and nursing practice.
  • Ensures the efficient operation of the clinic or unit by proper scheduling and planning for optimum use of equipment, staff and resources, maintenance of stock and supplies, efficient and safe use of equipment.
  • Uses systematic approach to provide nursing care to patients and families/populations by performing focused and comprehensive assessments through subjective and evidence based objective data.
  • Prioritizes, synthesizes, and documents assessments and nursing plan of care using critical thinking and judgment.
  • Implements plan of care within scope of practice through assignment and monitoring of other nurses and delegation and supervision of unlicensed staff. Initiates standing orders for prescription refills and labs as well as standing delegation orders where appropriate.
  • Develops and implements teaching plans concerning maintenance, promotion, and restoration of health. Evaluates patients' responses and outcomes to education and therapeutic interventions.
  • Communicates effectively with collaborative team while escalating critical results and issues in an appropriate and timely manner.
  • Exercises judgment while coordinating care and referring patients to agencies or health care professionals for other services/transitions in care where indicated.
  • Performs onsite and telephone triage using best practice guidelines and documentation to ensure patients receive the right level of care in the right setting at the right time by the right caregiver using the right equipment and supplies.
  • Acts as a patient and healthcare advocate by maintaining a safe environment and promoting quality healthcare and services.
  • Respects and maintains privacy and confidentiality per HIPAA guidelines.
  • Adheres to the standard of practice for professional nursing. Acts as a clinical and leadership resource for team members.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
