Staff Mechanical System Designer

E-SpaceArlington, TX
Onsite

About The Position

E-Space is bridging Earth and space to enable hyper-scaled deployments of Internet of Things (IoT) solutions and services. We are building a highly-advanced low Earth orbit (LEO) space system that will fundamentally change the design, economics, manufacturing and service delivery associated with traditional satellite and terrestrial IoT systems. The E-Space Manufacturing team builds the world's most advanced aerospace products at high rate and high precision. As a Staff Mechanical Systems Designer, you will be the senior technical anchor for mechanical systems design across E-Space's automated manufacturing lines. You'll own the architecture of complex mechanical systems - fixtures, frames, motion assemblies, and the integration of automation hardware - and set the design standards the rest of the team builds on. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who has delivered production-grade mechanical systems and wants to shape how a fast-scaling aerospace manufacturing team works. This position reports to the Manufacturing Engineering leadership team.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of hands-on mechanical design experience delivering production machinery, automation, or aerospace hardware.
  • Expert-level SolidWorks skills - large assemblies, complex parts, detailed drawings, and PDM.
  • Deep command of GD&T, tolerance stack-ups, and design for manufacturability.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership: setting standards, leading design reviews, and mentoring engineers.
  • Experience integrating mechanical designs with automation, motion control, and robotics.
  • Strong track record taking designs from concept to qualified production hardware.
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing end-effectors / EOAT or precision-assembly tooling.
  • Background in high-rate or aerospace manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with ABB or Fanuc robotic cells and Beckhoff-based automation.
  • Experience with thin-film, PV/solar, or satellite component manufacturing.

Responsibilities

  • Own the mechanical systems architecture for new automated production cells and equipment, from concept through production release.
  • Be the SolidWorks authority on the team - set CAD standards, manage top-level assemblies, and review drawings for manufacturability and GD&T.
  • Lead design reviews and mentor senior, junior, and intern designers across the mechanical group.
  • Define mechanical requirements and run trade studies for fixtures, frames, motion stages, and machine structures.
  • Partner with controls and robotics engineers to integrate Beckhoff motion, PLC, and ABB/Fanuc robotic systems into mechanical assemblies.
  • Drive design-for-manufacture and design-for-automation into every product the team touches.
  • Specify and source mechanical components, actuators, and hardware; own key vendor technical relationships.
  • Support build, integration, qualification, and acceptance testing on the production floor.
