About The Position

Generac is hiring a Staff Mechanical Components Engineer to join our growing team. In this role, you will serve as the critical technical liaison between Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and Contract Manufacturing partners to enable scalable, high-quality production of a rapidly expanding portfolio of solar energy storage products. The successful candidate will own all aspects of mechanical components quality used in power conversion and energy storage systems, ensuring products meet stringent performance, reliability, and durability requirement including warranty expectations of up to 25 years. This position will lead quality initiatives across qualified manufacturing sites, driving consistent delivery of high-quality products to Generac customers. You will play a key role in building robust processes, enabling scale readiness, and ensuring alignment between product design and manufacturing execution. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
  • Must have at least 7 years of manufacturing high reliability electronic, electromechanical or products with a focus on quality management in a contract manufacturing or electromechanical assembly environment.
  • Strong experience with solder chemistries/processing, electronics cleaning and cleanliness validation processes, conformal coating and potting
  • Solid quantitative skill set and the ability to analyze and communicate with well-supported data
  • Knowledge of PCB design capability
  • An individual critical thinker capable of devising plans and solutions for complex problems.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in mechanical engineering, electronics or other related field
  • Formally trained in GD&T
  • Six Sigma green or black belt preferred.
  • Proven experience collaborating with multiple sites and functions to drive common solutions.
  • Experience collaborating with tooling vendors and manufacturers to refine designs for production efficiency and quality (ie. Process and tooling knowledge and process audit).
  • Demonstrated experience in product launch and production, driving DRM/DFA improvements, resolving manufacturing issues, supplier quality management, root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Working experience of mechanical components and assemblies design and development using CAD software like SolidWorks or Creo
  • Strong understanding of 2D drawings and 3D CAD models, including application of proper tolerances and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Familiarity with aluminum die casting, plastic molding, and sheet metal processes and their design and tooling implications.
  • Experience collaborating with tooling vendors and manufacturers to refine designs for production efficiency and quality
  • Own overall product quality from a mechanical component’s perspective throughout the product lifecycle
  • Collaboration with engineering to define Critical to Quality (QTC) mechanical components within BOMs and define quality requirements
  • Lead component qualification and approval activities, including Part Approval Process (PPAP), First Article Inspection (FAO), validation testing and supplier quality audits to ensure compliance and performance standards.
  • Drive supplier quality improvement by managing part and process reviews, investigating component failures using 8D, 5Whys, and Fishbone methodologies, and implementing corrective actions through SCARs.
  • Perform supplier manufacturing process audits and assessments to ensure compliance with quality standards, process controls, and product reliability requirements.
  • Support cross-functional performance initiatives and perform additional duties as assigned.

Benefits

  • The salary range for this role based in N. Billerica, MA $138,400 - $179,800, this compensation will ultimately be in line with the location in which the position is filled. Final compensation for this role will be determined by various factors such as a candidates, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and geographic location. This role is eligible for variable compensation, including short term and long-term incentives.
