Staff Linux Systems Administrator - TS/SCI
About The Position
Northrop Grumman’s CIDO Classified Solutions team is seeking a Staff Computer Systems Analyst – Linux Systems Administrator to support information system lifecycle activities for classified government contracts. The role is based on-site, full-time in Redondo Beach, California, and does not offer virtual or telecommute work options. The position requires a current Top Secret clearance with SCI access eligibility and the ability to obtain and maintain a CI-Polygraph as a condition of continued employment. The successful candidate will lead enterprise Linux architecture and administration across multiple programs, oversee network and system operations, and direct large-scale system enhancement efforts. The role includes designing and improving backup, disaster recovery, and high-availability solutions; applying virtualization and containerization technologies; establishing access-control policies and technical standards; and providing technical leadership and mentorship. The work may require after-hours and weekend availability and lifting and moving equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Travel is 10% of the time.
Requirements
- Master’s degree with 10 years of IT experience, or bachelor’s degree with 12 years of IT experience, or associate degree with 14 years of IT experience.
- Linux operating systems, server, and workstation management experience in a classified environment.
- Cross-platform operating-system awareness across two or more systems such as Windows, Linux, Solaris, OSX, or UNIX.
- Meet U.S. Government 8140 certification requirements for a Staff Computer Systems Analyst – IAT Level II; examples include Security+ CE, CND, or CCNA Security.
- Current U.S. Government Top Secret security clearance with SCI access-level eligibility, at a minimum.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a CI-Polygraph as a condition of continued employment.
- Willingness to work on-site in Redondo Beach, California; virtual and telecommute options are not available.
- Ability to work after hours and weekends as needed.
- Ability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
Nice To Haves
- Master’s degree in Information Technology and 12 years of Linux server administration experience in a classified environment.
- Expert administration of modern Linux distributions, including RHEL 8/9 and Rocky Linux, across enterprise and classified environments.
- Experience architecting and managing virtualization solutions using VMware vSphere/ESXi, Citrix XenServer, and KVM/QEMU.
- Experience leading containerization initiatives using Docker, Docker Compose, and container security tools.
- Experience designing and orchestrating Kubernetes environments, including CNCF Kubernetes, Rancher, and Kubernetes Dashboard.
- Experience integrating and optimizing Azure CycleCloud, VMware Cloud Foundation, and nerdctl for hybrid and multi-cloud strategies.
- Networking expertise in subnets, routing, VLANs, VTCs, and cloud networking.
- Experience supporting enterprise monitoring and security tools such as Splunk and SolarWinds.
- Experience developing scripting and automation solutions using Bash, Python, and Ansible.
- Experience directing cross-platform operations across Linux, Windows, and UNIX systems.
- Experience creating and deploying system images in an enterprise environment.
- Experience with the Assessment & Authorization process.
- Active Top Secret/SCI clearance and a current CI-Polygraph.
Responsibilities
- Lead Linux systems analysis and administration in support of classified government contracts.
- Develop and govern enterprise-wide Linux architecture, including technical direction, standards, and roadmaps across multiple programs.
- Architect, implement, and continuously improve backup, disaster recovery, and high-availability solutions for mission-critical Linux systems.
- Oversee administration and support of multiple networks, guide technical teams, and apply networking expertise.
- Direct large-scale system enhancement projects from requirements analysis through design, procurement, deployment, and post-implementation validation.
- Use scripting and automation to optimize system performance and reliability.
- Develop and enforce policies for user and computer account management, file permissions, and enterprise-wide identity and access controls across platforms.
- Author, maintain, and enhance technical SOPs, standards, and best-practice guides for Linux environments, integrating monitoring and security tools.
- Provide regular project status updates for recurring and non-recurring efforts.
- Work independently to resolve complex and ambiguous technical challenges.
- Provide strategic mentorship and technical leadership to junior, mid-level, and senior team members.
- Lift and move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Work after hours and weekends as needed.
