About The Position

Zurich is seeking a Managing Attorney to oversee their Staff Legal offices in Baltimore, MD, Pittsburgh, PA, and Ohio. The selected candidate will report to a Regional Managing Attorney and manage Liability and Workers’ Compensation attorneys. This role does not involve managing a personal caseload but focuses on leading the team responsible for representing Zurich's commercial insureds. The attorneys on the team handle moderate to high exposure cases from a challenging and varied caseload, preparing and trying cases. This position requires an experienced attorney capable of providing coaching and feedback on complex matters and high exposures within the office. Zurich North America acknowledges the importance of work-life balance and flexibility, offering a hybrid work model that allows for individual work in a preferred location while facilitating in-person collaboration. The selected candidate can work remotely from the Baltimore area or from the Pittsburgh Staff Legal office.

Requirements

Juris Doctor and 10 or more years of experience in the litigation area.
Significant first chair jury trial experience.
Member in good standing in Maryland State Bar.
Experience working with Lexis.
Knowledge of the insurance industry, claims, and the insurance defense litigation legal environment.
Knowledge of law and procedure.

Member in good standing in the Pennsylvania Bar Association.
Prior management experience including demonstrated leadership courage.
Familiarity with the defense of personal injury and worker’s compensation claims arising from general liability, auto, and construction.
Extensive knowledge of the law and procedure.

Responsibilities

Manage Liability and Workers’ Compensation attorneys in Baltimore, Pittsburgh, and Ohio.
Lead attorneys responsible for representing commercial insureds.
Provide coaching and feedback on complex matters and high exposures.
Manage a staff of 10 attorneys and 3 paralegals working in a hybrid model across two offices.
