Staff IT Engineer

AbridgeSan Francisco, CA
$200,000 - $240,000

About The Position

As a Staff IT Engineer, you will be a technical leader responsible for driving efficiency and scale across the entire corporate IT infrastructure and enterprise ecosystem. You will design, build, and maintain mission-critical automation solutions that eliminate manual processes, enhance security posture, and improve the employee experience globally. This role requires deep engineering expertise, an IT product mindset for automation, and the ability to mentor junior team members while tackling the organization's most complex integration and scaling challenges. You will work directly with IT leadership, Security leadership, and department heads across the company. Operating at the intersection of healthcare AI and enterprise IT, you will be expected to architect and enforce automation standards that meet the rigorous demands of a HIPAA-compliant, SOC 2-audited environment.

Requirements

  • 10+ years in IT Engineering, IT Apps Development, or DevOps, with at least 5 years dedicated to large-scale enterprise automation.
  • Deep hands-on experience automating complex operations and governance across GCP, AWS, and/or Azure. You will bring an ability to build and modularize infrastructure provisioning using Infrastructure as Code (i.e. Terraform).
  • Highly proficient in at least one modern programming language; strong preference for Python.
  • Proven experience with REST/GraphQL APIs and querying and managing relational databases (SQL strongly preferred).
  • Extensive experience designing and managing centralized automation platforms (e.g., n8n, SOAR, Ansible, Workato, or custom frameworks).
  • Experience operating in regulated industries (healthcare, finance, or similar) with exposure to SOC 2, HIPAA, or equivalent compliance frameworks.
  • Able to communicate effectively across a wide range of audiences — from engineers to GTM stakeholders, from individual contributors to executives.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with agentic AI or ML models applied to IT automation (proactive issue detection, intelligent routing, NLP).

Responsibilities

  • Develop scalable, resilient workflow automation solutions to streamline critical business processes, including onboarding/offboarding, access requests, compliance enforcement, and self-service IT support.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for integrating disparate systems by building robust, fault-tolerant connections using APIs and event-driven architectures.
  • Drive automation within the IAM infrastructure, focusing on automated role assignment, least-privilege policy enforcement, and audit-friendly logging of authentication and authorization events.
  • Architect and engineer robust data platforms for IT, ensuring efficient collection, normalization, and secure storage of high-volume enterprise data for reporting, audit, and advanced analytics.
  • Act as a force multiplier for the team — establishing engineering best practices, leading code reviews, documenting architectures, and mentoring engineers in automation principles.
  • Own the end-to-end deployment and lifecycle management of business-critical systems and custom-built applications, from architecture and vendor evaluation through implementation, integration, and ongoing support — ensuring solutions are secure, scalable, and aligned with enterprise IT standards.
