About The Position

Life360 is seeking a design-oriented builder for its AI Lab, a startup-like team focused on transforming the company's family-focused app into an intelligent operating system. This role involves a blurred line between engineering, design, and product, requiring a strong aesthetic sense and the ability to quickly turn rough ideas into tangible, clickable prototypes. The engineer will work directly with design, product, and the founder, participating in the creative process rather than being downstream of it. The emphasis is on rapid iteration, shipping daily, and learning from user feedback, operating without traditional specs and thriving on energy and momentum. The role is for candidates who are comfortable with ambiguity and have a strong desire to build and innovate in an AI-native environment.

Requirements

  • Self-starter energy and a desire to win, operating on founder hours.
  • Ability to operate without a spec, preferring conversation and sketches.
  • Comfortable shipping daily, even if rough or ugly, prioritizing momentum over polish.
  • Proactive in seeking out tasks and demanding excellence.
  • Ability to hold strong opinions and change them based on evidence.
  • Customer of the product, using it to understand user experience.
  • Swift as the primary language, with comfort in picking up new tools.
  • Deep experience building consumer mobile or web products.
  • Zero-to-one stage experience and the desire to repeat it.
  • Ability to move from a blank screen to a working prototype without hand-holding.
  • Deep knowledge in Swift and SwiftUI.
  • AI-native in daily workflow, with hands-on experience with tools like Claude Code or Cursor.
  • Deep experience with agentic workflows, prompt engineering, context window management, MCP / function calling.

Nice To Haves

  • Understanding of the Apple ecosystem, including Apple Foundation Model and App Intent.
  • Map-based or location-driven product work.
  • Understanding of design problems unique to spatial UI.

Responsibilities

  • Take rough ideas (sketches, voice memos, half-finished docs) and turn them into something real and clickable, fast. The first version is usually the same day.
  • Build prototypes for the surfaces that make the product tangible: the map, widgets, Live Activities, Dynamic Island, voice, in-app moments where information surfaces automatically.
  • Make tasteful UI calls without waiting for design to spec every pixel. Design refines. You get it 80% there.
  • Sit in the room when product direction gets debated. Push back when something doesn't feel right. We need engineers who are part of the conversation, not waiting for the output.
  • Use AI tooling aggressively. Orchestrate agents to generate code, write tests, and review your work.
  • Ship to test groups, watch how people actually use what you built, iterate. The feedback loop is short and you are inside it.

Benefits

  • Competitive pay and benefits.
  • Medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance plans (100% paid for US employees).
  • Supplemental plans for medical and dental for Canadian employees.
  • 401(k) plan with company matching program in the US.

  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for mental wellness.
  • Flexible PTO and 12 company wide days off throughout the year.
  • Learning & Development programs.
