About The Position

Langan is seeking a Staff Geotechnical Engineer to join its collaborative team in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The role supports planning and executing field investigations, monitoring foundation and earthwork construction, identifying and implementing field and laboratory work solutions, and preparing logs and reports. The engineer will analyze geotechnical engineering problems and assist with geotechnical engineering reports for large-scale and high-profile projects. The position involves spending the majority of work hours in the field, with travel potentially required based on business needs and project assignments.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering.
• 0–3 years of work-related experience.
• Minimum GPA of 3.0.
• EIT Certification or current registration for the FE exam.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail and excellent analytical, multitasking, and judgment capabilities.
• Willingness to spend the majority of work hours in the field.
• Ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment.
• Travel may be required based on business needs and project assignments.

Nice To Haves

• Master’s degree with a Geotechnical specialty, or desire to pursue one.

Responsibilities

• Assist with planning and executing field investigations, including logging borings and test pits, collecting samples, performing field tests, and collecting and recording data.
• Observe foundation and earthwork construction activities and monitor conformance with construction documents.
• Identify and implement solutions to routine and complex field and laboratory problems.
• Prepare standard logs and field forms, including drilling and test pit logs, field investigation dailies, and chain of custody logs.
• Conduct file reviews, site reconnaissance, and document searches.
• Accurately document and communicate problems encountered on project sites to a supervisor.
• Perform other duties as requested.
