About The Position

Docplanner is seeking a Staff Engineer to set the technical direction for its patient-facing Marketplace, where patients search for doctors, compare profiles and book visits. The Marketplace is undergoing a domain-by-domain migration from a long-lived PHP monolith to a company monorepo built around vertical slices (API and React web) and a strangler pattern. The successful candidate will ensure the migration creates a better, more modular platform, with well-owned capabilities that other Docplanner products can consume through clear contracts. The role combines cross-team technical leadership with hands-on engineering. The Staff Engineer will define the Marketplace’s target architecture across search, listings, doctor profiles and bookings; guide safe migration of domains and their data, business logic and persistence; and help make the monorepo the source of truth. They will use AI coding agents such as Claude Code to prototype and ship production changes, while owning design, review, correctness, security and quality. They will also prove AI-assisted workflows for migration and integration, mentor senior engineers, and partner with Engineering and Product Managers to unblock planning and cross-team work. Success includes establishing an agreed migration direction and plan, exposing at least one core Marketplace capability through a versioned contract used in production, measurably shrinking monolith dependencies, and helping teams adopt effective AI-native engineering practices. The position is 100% remote-friendly; the posting also mentions a remote or hybrid model with a hub in Warsaw.

Requirements

  • Have led technical direction across several teams, with decisions that held up in production.
  • Have experience taking apart a large legacy system while it continues serving real traffic.
  • Have practical experience with the strangler pattern, anti-corruption layers, data migration and dual-write pitfalls.
  • Be strong in distributed systems and backend architecture, and comfortable in a polyglot environment.
  • Have solid hands-on experience using AI to accelerate software development, with good judgment about when to rely on it.
  • Have experience directing AI agents to write code and keeping design, correctness and security under control.
  • Enjoy mentoring and raising the bar of other engineers.
  • Be fluent in English.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with two-sided marketplaces, search and discovery, or booking and scheduling systems.
  • Experience with monorepos at scale, including build tooling, code ownership and shared platform conventions.
  • Experience exposing product capabilities to AI agents.
  • Experience in healthcare or another regulated domain where data privacy and security shape architecture.

Responsibilities

  • Own the target technical architecture of the Marketplace across search, listings, doctors’ profiles and the booking flow.
  • Ensure Marketplace capabilities fit together end to end on the new stack.
  • Shape the monolith-to-monorepo migration, including domain sequencing, safe migration approaches and criteria for when a domain is fully migrated.
  • Use approaches such as strangler routing, anti-corruption layers, shadow traffic and staged source-of-truth changes to migrate domains safely.
  • Move domains from thin proxies over the monolith to native ownership in the monorepo, including data, business logic and persistence.
  • Make Marketplace capabilities reusable across the Docplanner portfolio by exposing bookings, profiles and search through clear contracts.
  • Direct AI coding agents to prototype and ship production changes, while owning design, review and quality.
  • Advance AI-assisted development for migration work, including legacy-code understanding and generation of contracts, adapters and tests.
  • Help ensure parity between old and new systems and make Marketplace capabilities usable by AI agents as well as people.
  • Partner with Engineering Managers and Product Managers on planning and cross-team work.
  • Mentor senior engineers in architecture, system design and pragmatic decision-making.
  • Contribute to Docplanner’s Staff+ community of practice and share effective practices and technical standards.
  • Establish technical direction and a practical migration plan that teams can use to plan their work.
  • Prove AI-assisted migration and integration workflows with one team and support adoption by others.

Benefits

  • Salary appropriate to experience and skills.
  • Remote or hybrid work model with a hub in Warsaw.
  • Flexible working hours; in most cases, only a couple of meetings per week are required.
  • 20 or 26 days of paid time off, depending on contract.
  • An additional paid day off on the employee’s birthday or work anniversary.
  • Private healthcare plan with Signal Iduna for the employee, with subsidized coverage for family.
  • Multisport card co-financing for access to sports facilities across Poland.
  • Access to iFeel, a mental wellness platform offering online psychological support and counseling.
  • Free English and Spanish classes.
