As a Staff Engineer – Power Generation (Turbines), you will operate as a senior technical expert, working independently on projects of significant scope and complexity. You will leverage deep industry experience to influence technical direction, anticipate business trends, and drive improvements across systems, processes, and standards. This role requires strong technical leadership, sound judgment, and the ability to communicate effectively with both peers and leadership. Day in the Life As a Staff Engineer – Power Generation (Turbines), you will work independently to anticipate internal and external business trends and lead major, high-impact engineering initiatives. You will recommend improvements to policies, procedures, and technical standards while advising leadership through technical presentations and guiding the work of others. Your ability to influence outcomes, drive consistency, and elevate engineering practices will be key to your success.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited institution, OR Bachelor’s degree in engineering technology (relevant field) with a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license
  • Minimum of 15 years of progressive engineering experience in the natural gas, energy, or petrochemical industry
  • Deep expertise in rotating equipment and power generation systems, including reciprocating turbines, gas turbines, reciprocating engines, and generator controls
  • Proven ability to analyze equipment performance and reliability, including vibration, transient loading impacts, protection systems, and overall equipment health
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence technical decisions and provide guidance to leadership and cross-functional teams
  • Ability to work independently while providing technical leadership and mentorship
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications

Responsibilities

  • Lead technical and economic evaluations, performance testing, and the design, construction, or upgrade of new and existing facilities
  • Execute complex technical work and provide leadership on projects of significant scope and impact
  • Identify and anticipate internal and external business or regulatory trends; recommend and implement process and system improvements
  • Develop and maintain technical standards, specifications, and best practices with a strong focus on safety and compliance
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in rotating equipment, with emphasis on reciprocating turbines
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in gas turbine and reciprocating engine power generation, including generator controls technology
  • Perform technical analysis of generator systems (5MW and larger) across various manufacturers
  • Analyze equipment reliability, generator vibration, generator health under transient loading, and protection systems
  • Interpret technical data and provide guidance to management to support business objectives and decision-making
  • Deliver technical presentations and advise leadership on engineering strategies and outcomes
  • Lead or support cross-functional teams, ensuring projects are executed efficiently and effectively
  • Drive innovation through the development or enhancement of services, technologies, and processes
  • Partner across teams to ensure compliance, continuous improvement, and alignment with operational needs
  • Influence project outcomes and decisions that positively impact business performance
  • Other duties as assigned
