About The Position

Join Carrier’s Technology & Components – Compression Technology team as a key engineering leader helping evolve and sustain next‑generation compressor platforms. In this role, you’ll take end‑to‑end ownership of design changes—from early concept and detailed design through validation and production release—working hand‑in‑hand with manufacturing and suppliers to ensure smooth industrialization. You’ll also play a central role in resolving manufacturing, operational, testing and quality investigations with urgency and technical rigor, using data-driven engineering and quality tools to strengthen robustness, improve manufacturability, and reduce cost while protecting performance and reliability. Based in Charlotte, NC, this position offers broad visibility and global collaboration across engineering, design, and operations teams. It’s an ideal opportunity for a driven, self-directed mechanical engineer with deep experience in turbomachinery or other high-speed rotating equipment, and a strong working understanding of real-world manufacturing processes such as casting, forging, CNC machining, lubrication, and bearings—translating technical insight into practical, high-confidence decisions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
  • 7+ years of experience designing, developing, and supporting the production of mechanical equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in turbomachinery, high speed rotating equipment, compressors or turbines.
  • Effective communication skills, teamwork, pro-active, and the ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural global organization are essential.
  • Knowledge of thermodynamics, quality tools, and GD&T are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate dedicated design/drafting resources to execute compressor design changes from concept through production release, partnering closely with manufacturing and suppliers to ensure successful implementation.
  • Collaborate within a global, cross-functional team (engineering, design, and operations) to develop, sustain, and continuously improve compression product platforms, with focus on quality, cost, and manufacturability.
  • Drive timely evaluation and resolution of manufacturing and quality investigations, using structured problem-solving and data-driven decision making.
  • Apply engineering and quality methods/tools to enhance design robustness, improve manufacturability, and reduce product cost while meeting component performance and quality requirements.
  • Support the integration of new technologies into greenfield compression projects, ensuring alignment with platform strategy, producibility, and performance targets.
  • Develop troubleshooting guidelines for operational, performance and reliability issues of centrifugal compressors
  • Drive sustaining and cost reduction initiatives
