Intertek is seeking a Staff Engineer - Industrial to join their Electrical team in Plano, Texas. This role focuses on Industrial equipment and offers an opportunity for career growth. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Mechanical considered with relevant power experience)
  • 10+ years of experience in power, utility, industrial, or electrical equipment engineering
  • Ability to read and interpret: Electrical schematics & one-lines, Mechanical drawings, Standards and technical specifications
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, multi-project environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools
  • Ability to travel up to 25%, as business needs dictate
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with utility, substation, or grid equipment
  • Familiarity with standards such as: IEEE C37 series, UL 891 / UL 1558 / UL 508A, NFPA codes, ANSI / CSA / IEC standards
  • Exposure to: Short-circuit studies, Temperature rise testing, Insulation coordination, Grounding & bonding requirements
  • Prior experience with utilities, EPCs, OEMs, or testing laboratories
  • Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification
  • Project coordination or customer-facing technical experience

Responsibilities

  • Interpret and apply UL, IEEE, ANSI, CSA, IEC, and utility specifications to equipment under testing (EUT)
  • Conduct on-site and laboratory-based design reviews, construction inspections, and compliance assessments
  • Develop test plans, evaluation strategies, and certification pathways aligned to project scope and customer needs
  • Witness or conduct testing related to: Dielectric withstand & insulation coordination, Temperature rise & current ratings, Grounding & bonding, Mechanical integrity & enclosure protection, Environmental exposure & abnormal/fault conditions
  • Support preliminary design reviews (PDRs) for utility-facing and grid-connected equipment
  • Assist customers in resolving nonconformances and design gaps identified during evaluations
  • Develop laboratory capabilities to expand certification scope
  • Develop and execute training plans for less tenured engineers as well as provide mentorship for their project-work
  • Participate in standard development committees and report upcoming regulation changes to Chief Engineer(s)
  • Conduct audits at customer facilities and other Intertek locations
  • Participate in audits that take place at the Intertek Plano facility and assist in resolving identified non-conformities
  • Travel to customer facilities, factories, and substations as required
  • Other tasks as assigned by management
