About The Position

French & Parrello Associates (FPA) is seeking a Staff Engineer for our Highway/Traffic Department in Newark or Wall, NJ. This role involves assisting with the design and preparation of roadway and traffic engineering plans, supporting traffic engineering studies, performing data collection and analysis, and preparing technical reports. The engineer will utilize design software, coordinate with internal teams, attend project meetings, and support construction phase services.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field from an accredited university
• 0–2 years of relevant experience (internship experience preferred)
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or ability to obtain within one year
• Basic knowledge of roadway and/or traffic engineering principles
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple tasks

Nice To Haves

• Familiarity with NJDOT, AASHTO, and MUTCD standards is a plus
• Experience with design and analysis software (AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, Synchro, HCS, etc.) preferred

Responsibilities

• Assist with the design and preparation of roadway and traffic engineering plans, including alignments, profiles, signage, striping, and maintenance of traffic plans
• Support traffic engineering studies such as traffic impact studies, signal warrant analyses, and capacity analysis
• Perform data collection and analysis, including traffic counts and field observations
• Prepare technical reports, calculations, and supporting documentation
• Utilize design software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, Synchro, and/or HCS
• Coordinate with internal team members across multiple disciplines
• Attend project meetings and assist with client coordination as needed
• Support construction phase services, including shop drawing review and field inspections
