•$111,070 - $166,400•Onsite

About The Position

The Staff Engineer for Lab Operations owns the end-to-end operation of Marvell’s Customer Solutions Group hardware lab in Santa Clara. This senior individual-contributor role is accountable for lab infrastructure and setup integrity, equipment lifecycle and inventory, vendor relationships, RMA setup readiness, budget execution, global remote-lab enablement, and logistics for customer demonstrations and industry tradeshows. The goal is to maintain a disciplined, reliable, and consistently ready environment that supports engineers and customers across all CSG platforms. The role manages test setups from assembly and calibration through preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, documentation, and lifecycle planning. It maintains lab organization, equipment and consumables, remote-access readiness, and dedicated RMA test systems. It also leads lab renovation and expansion work, coordinates with facilities and security, sources and evaluates equipment, tracks spending, and provides technical and financial input for equipment planning. The position supports worldwide CSG and engineering teams by keeping Santa Clara lab setups accessible and operational, coordinating resources with labs in other regions, and ensuring technical setups are ready for customer demos and tradeshows. It partners with hardware design, SI/PI, silicon, software, operations, facilities, security, vendors, and global Marvell sites.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting labs that test Ethernet switching, AI fabric, or high-speed networking platforms.
  • Familiarity with remote lab access infrastructure such as KVM-over-IP, equipment automation frameworks, lab reservation systems, and secure remote instrumentation control.
  • Background coordinating with global engineering labs across multiple time zones.
  • Experience maintaining RMA or failure-analysis test setups and ensuring readiness for field-return units.
  • Experience with lab renovation, expansion, or new-site build-out projects.
  • Familiarity with lab safety standards, ESD controls, and asset/audit compliance practices in a semiconductor environment.
  • Experience supporting customer demos at major industry tradeshows such as OCP, OFC, SC, or Hot Chips.

Responsibilities

  • Own the Santa Clara CSG lab’s equipment, setups, organization, safety, and day-to-day operational health across supported platforms.
  • Maintain test setups end-to-end, including assembly, calibration schedules, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, documentation, and lifecycle management.
  • Manage lab organization, layout, and signage so engineers and visitors can locate equipment and instrumentation efficiently.
  • Lead lab renovation and expansion projects, including scoping, planning, vendor coordination, and execution.
  • Coordinate lab requirements with facilities and physical security teams, including power, cooling, cabling, room build-outs, access controls, and visitor protocols.
  • Manage lab equipment inventory, including tagging, asset tracking, location and utilization tracking, and end-of-life planning.
  • Maintain adequate spares, cables, fixtures, and consumables to keep lab setups operating without interruption.
  • Maintain dedicated RMA test setups, systems, test programs, and instrumentation so field-returned chips can be tested promptly; ensure test-hole-plug coverage and retest readiness.
  • Build and maintain relationships with test-equipment vendors, integrators, and service providers.
  • Source and evaluate equipment, analyze quotes, and recommend purchases based on technical fit, cost, lead time, and long-term support.
  • Stay current on test and measurement equipment and capabilities for high-speed and AI infrastructure validation.
  • Execute the annual lab equipment and operating budget, track spending, manage purchase orders, and report against plan.
  • Advise leadership on equipment requirements, refresh cycles, capability gaps, quotes, technical recommendations, and ROI input for planning.
  • Maintain reliable worldwide access to working Santa Clara lab setups for debugging and testing, including connectivity and setup readiness.
  • Maintain remote-access uptime through setup-state preservation, equipment readiness, connectivity monitoring, and recovery when issues occur.
  • Coordinate with labs in Israel, India, and other locations on shared setups, equipment loans, and cross-site resource use.
  • Own customer-demo and tradeshow logistics, including planning, equipment selection, shipping, onsite setup, teardown, and return.
  • Coordinate with engineers delivering technical content so demonstrations have working setups and engineers can focus on customer engagement.
  • Partner with hardware design, SI/PI, silicon, software, and operations teams to anticipate lab needs as platforms ramp.
  • Work with facilities and security teams on space planning, infrastructure upgrades, and access policies.
  • Serve as the operational backbone supporting the CSG team’s technical work.
