About The Position

Intertek is seeking a Staff Engineer, Geotechnical to join their Professional Services Industries, Inc. (Intertek-PSI) team in Indianapolis, IN. This role offers the chance to gain versatile skills in the engineering and construction industry. Intertek-PSI is a leading US-based provider of construction assurance, testing, and inspection in civil and commercial construction, offering services like construction materials testing, geotechnical services, environmental engineering, industrial hygiene, and specialty testing. The Geotechnical Staff Engineer will conduct Geotechnical engineering and project management services on local and/or regional projects. This is considered an entry-level position for technical/professional work in the geotechnical engineering industry. Geotechnical Staff Engineers work under close supervision of experienced professionals, completing assignments that require the application of standard geotechnical techniques, procedures, and technical criteria. They perform specific and limited portions of broader assignments under guidance. The job schedule may include some nights and weekends, but is predominantly during traditional daytime working hours.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree is required
  • Effective communication skills (written, verbal, and listening) are required
  • Solid interpersonal skills are required
  • Basic math, calculator, and computer skills are required
  • The ability to read and understand work plans is required
  • Must be able to work off shifts as needed
  • Valid Driver's License and reliable driving record is required

Nice To Haves

  • Experience operating in a geotechnical laboratory is preferred
  • Experience operating in a DOT soils laboratory is preferred
  • Experience performing construction materials testing is preferred
  • EIT/FE Certification is highly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of assignments and roles that include independent evaluations using standard geotechnical techniques, procedures and criteria using judgment
  • Prepare and review Engineering reports, project plans and specifications
  • Assign, track, and manage work/tasks to staff
  • Prepare scopes, budgets, task orders, and schedules for project task assignments
  • Prepare proposals to provide professional services
  • Review recommendations with Professional Engineers, Senior Project Managers, & Principal Consultants
  • Maintain and leverage client relationships to develop new project opportunities
  • Attend client site meetings
  • Communicate effectively with client and project teams
  • Work on one or multiple projects at a time
  • Train Technicians and other Technical staff
  • May perform on-site observations, sample collection, and specific tests
  • May work both in the field and laboratory occasionally
  • Must be aware of, and adhere to, safety practices and policies to ensure your own safety, as well as the safety of others who may be affected by your actions at work
