About The Position

The Staff Engineer – Electrical will work with a project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting electrical plans according to design requirements, site constraints and client preferences. Payne & Dolan is looking for a self-motivated, results-oriented, problem-solver who has a desire to be part of our growing engineering design group.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Renewable Energy Systems
  • Valid Driver's License and satisfactory driving record
  • Must be a reliable, efficient self-starter with initiative and a sense of responsibility

Nice To Haves

  • Prior internship experience desired
  • Prior AutoCAD and ETAP experience desired
  • Working knowledge of electrical components including: PV modules, inverters, transformers, surge arresters, and circuit breakers.
  • Familiarity with electrical engineering standards/codes including: NEC, NFPA, IEEE, IEC, UL, NESC.
  • Ability to communicate with others to convey information effectively, by telephone, in written form, email and in person
  • Ability to keep accurate and detailed records or notes

Responsibilities

  • Perform electrical design of utility-scale solar projects from the conceptual phase through design completion. This includes collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams to develop equipment layouts, one-line diagrams, cable routing, communications systems design, grounding design, equipment selection, and equipment specifications.
  • Perform electrical system modeling in ETAP to evaluate cable ampacity, voltage drop, ground potential rise, and thermal performance.
  • Develop comprehensive electrical engineering reports, including short‑circuit studies, load‑flow analyses, arc‑flash hazard assessments, and ground grid evaluations.
  • Create, modify and review PV electric supply stations using PVsyst and System Advisor Model.
  • Create, modify and review electrical drawings and construction details using AutoCAD
  • Perform engineering and design functions as necessary to meet project schedules
  • Perform site reviews and construction site visits
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned
