About The Position

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is seeking a Staff Development Specialist II to join the Murdoch Developmental Center Staff Development Department. This department trains over 1100 staff members and provides a comprehensive training program including orientation, in-service education, on-the-job training, supervision and management training, and continuing education. The primary focus of this position is to serve as the lead trainer for the Epic eMerge EHR system, responsible for training and coordinating direct care staff and some professional/clinical staff. The role also involves providing consultation on Epic duties within the facility and delivering consultative services and new employee training as directed by the Director of Development. This position reports to the Staff Development Director.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of training development experience in a progressive training or teaching role; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be in good standing with the North Carolina Health Care Personnel Registry.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in computer principles and their application to an electronic health record.
  • Ability to interpret regulations, software, applications, and operate hardware for the Center’s Epic use.
  • Experience in delivering training programs for adult learners.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Experience in use of audiovisual aids and other training tools and resources (laptop, projector).
  • Experience in interpreting, applying, and communicating a variety of policies, procedures, and regulations to a wide range of audiences and situations.
  • Experience with EPIC.
  • Knowledge of NC Personnel policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary trainer for the Epic eMerge EHR system.
  • Lead training and coordination for direct care staff and some professional/clinical staff in the use of Epic.
  • Provide consultation as needed within the facility related to Epic duties.
  • Provide consultative services and new employee training as directed by the Director of Development.
  • Lift training materials such as tables and chairs to set up classrooms.
  • Transport AV equipment including bags with computers and projectors, portable screens, and reams of paper.
