About The Position

The Staff Dentist is responsible for the provision of dental services in a Patient Centered Health Home context, with a focus on access to care. This role involves the direct provision of comprehensive dental services, meeting productivity expectations, and ensuring accurate documentation. The dentist will diagnose conditions, inform patients about prevention, discuss treatment options, and refer to specialists when necessary. A strong emphasis is placed on providing excellent customer service, maintaining patient satisfaction, and promoting health literacy through educational materials. The position requires participation in daily huddles, collaboration with ancillary health team members, and ensuring adherence to clinical procedures and protocols, including OSHA and Standard Precautions. The Staff Dentist will also interact with medical staff, complete chart and peer reviews, assist in program planning, and participate in community outreach events. Responsibilities include contributing to staff performance evaluations and quality improvement initiatives, providing guidance to dental residents and externs, participating in site and provider meetings, and being available for on-call coverage. Adherence to attendance policies and the ability to work at any FHCN location are also essential.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Dental Surgery or Dental Medicine Doctor degree.
  • Ability to create highly complex documents in Microsoft Word, including linking multiple files and embedding objects linked to other documents.
  • Ability to use advanced functions of Microsoft Excel, such as to create and manage databases, including creating standardized reports, or link multiple worksheets and workbooks.
  • Ability to develop sophisticated presentations in Microsoft PowerPoint, including the use of embedded objects, transitions and other elements.
  • Licensed in the state of California as a Dentist.
  • Effectively communicate professional opinions and extrapolations of information they collect and synthesize/analyze.
  • Determine appropriate methods of communicating information through the use of tables, graphs, charts and other visual forms.
  • Prepare and execute presentations to large groups.
  • Regularly required to sit and use repetitive hand movement to grasp and type.
  • Frequently required to stand or walk.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Direct provision of dental services meeting all established productivity expectations.
  • Provide comprehensive dental examination and review appropriate x-rays, medical and dental histories to determine a diagnosis.
  • Document visits accurately utilizing appropriate templates, and record relevant data to attain a diagnosis.
  • Attain budgeted visits.
  • Meet clinical care measures.
  • Lock records in the 72-hour window.
  • Perform diagnostic, preventive and restorative oral procedures.
  • Evaluate the current health and condition of the patient’s teeth to determine the diagnosis of any existing dental condition.
  • Inform patients on how to prevent dental problems and keep their teeth and mouth as healthy as possible.
  • Consider treatment methods and explain options with the patient to determine which works best based on their situation.
  • Refer patients to orthodontists, oral surgeons, periodontists or other specialists for more advanced dental procedures and treatment.
  • Provide excellent customer service and care.
  • Consistently behave with courtesy when interacting with patients/family members, support staff and Network staff.
  • Listen to patients/family members and show an understanding of patients’ needs.
  • Provide the patient with educational materials and resources appropriate to the patient’s health literacy needs.
  • Achieve patient status as measured by relevant clinical quality measures.
  • Remain aware of wait time during the daily workflow.
  • Promote and participate in daily huddles.
  • Incorporate the participation of ancillary health team members in managing the care of the patients/families.
  • Assist in the assurance of clinical procedures and the maintenance of up-to-date clinical protocols.
  • Consistently observe and assure OSHA, and Standard Precautions are maintained.
  • Interact with professional medical staff in rendering comprehensive care to mutual patients.
  • Complete chart and peer review responsibility in a timely manner.
  • Assist supervisors in planning and implementing new programs for the dental department.
  • Participate in Network Health Fairs, screening activities and other community outreach events.
  • Where relevant assist the supervisor with input for performance evaluations of support staff and quality improvement.
  • Where relevant assist the NDD /CDD with the review and update of clinical policies and procedures.
  • Where relevant provide feedback and guidance to dental residents and dental assistant externs.
  • Participate in site and provider meetings in a meaningful way.
  • Participate with “On Call” coverage, per schedule.
  • Meet Network and credentialing expectations for licensure, and employment.
  • Adhere to the Attendance and Absenteeism Policy.
  • Ability to present to and work at any FHCN location, both at the beginning of a shift or during a shift, based on business need.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
