About The Position

Huntress is seeking an experienced database reliability engineer to join its SRE Engineering team. The team proactively builds, monitors, and implements databases that support the Huntress Security Platform and millions of installed endpoint agents. This role focuses on the stability, resilience, scalability, performance, and observability of production PostgreSQL systems, including deployments in Azure. The engineer will work with SRE and application teams to optimize database infrastructure and provide technical guidance on queries, schemas, and indexes.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience scaling, configuring, maintaining, and managing PostgreSQL clusters in production environments.
  • Expertise designing, implementing, and supporting replication, including streaming and logical replication, failover mechanisms, and backup and recovery strategies.
  • Deep understanding of PostgreSQL architecture, including WAL, transaction management, locking mechanisms, and background processes such as autovacuum.
  • Extensive hands-on experience managing and maintaining large-scale, terabyte-level or high-transaction-volume PostgreSQL databases in a live, 24/7 production environment.
  • Experience with observability tools such as DataDog or New Relic; any tooling is acceptable.
  • Deep experience tuning critical performance parameters.

Nice To Haves

  • Understanding of NoSQL data models, such as MongoDB document schemas, Redis key-value structures, or Cassandra column families, and how to optimize them for access patterns.
  • Understanding of when to use a relational database and when not to.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code (IaC).

Responsibilities

  • Continuously review and tune critical PostgreSQL configuration parameters, including shared_buffers, work_mem, and autovacuum settings, to maximize resource utilization and fit workload profiles.
  • Forecast future resource requirements based on application growth and agent usage trends, and propose scaling solutions.
  • Design, implement, and manage monitoring dashboards and alerting systems for KPIs such as latency, throughput, connection count, and cache hit ratio.
  • Design, implement, and maintain indexing strategies, and identify and remove redundant or underutilized indexes that degrade write performance.
  • Implement and manage scaling techniques such as database partitioning for large tables and coordinate database sharding efforts when needed.
  • Partner with the SRE team to optimize PostgreSQL deployments in Azure, including efficient use of cloud-specific storage and networking.
  • Provide application teams with technical guidance on query, schema, and index design.

Benefits

  • Generous paid time off, including vacation, sick time, and paid holidays.
  • 12 weeks of paid parental leave.
  • Medical, dental, and vision benefits plans.
  • 401(k) with a 5% contribution regardless of employee contribution.
  • Life and disability insurance plans.
  • Stock options for all full-time employees.
  • One-time $500 reimbursement for building or upgrading a home office.
  • Annual allowance for education and professional development assistance.
  • $75 USD per month digital reimbursement.
  • Access to the BetterUp platform for coaching and personal and professional growth.
  • Bonus and equity compensation.
