As a Staff Data Scientist, you will leverage transportation demand signals and shipment-level data to drive optimization across routing, mode selection, and capacity planning. You will develop data-driven decision frameworks that improve cost efficiency, service performance, and overall network effectiveness. You will partner cross-functionally with data science, product, and operations teams to embed these insights into scalable systems and tools that inform day-to-day transportation decisions. Your work will support both financial and operational planning by quantifying trade-offs, identifying optimization opportunities, and improving execution at a granular level. This position is based in Bentonville, AR.

Requirements

  • Experience in optimization and decision science methods; strong programming skills in Python or R, with experience using libraries and tools for optimization and data processing (e.g., Pyomo, OR-Tools, CPLEX, pandas, NumPy).
  • Experience solving large-scale optimization problems, including resource allocation, scheduling, and network design, using techniques such as linear programming, mixed-integer programming, heuristics, and simulation.
  • Experience applying data science and analytical techniques to solve complex business problems, including feature engineering, exploratory analysis, and model-driven decision support.
  • Strong understanding of mathematical optimization, probability, and statistical concepts to model uncertainty and support decision-making under constraints.
  • Demonstrated experience in data extraction, transformation, and manipulation using SQL and large-scale data platforms (e.g., Hive, Big Query) to enable analytical and optimization workflows.
  • Proven ability to operate in fast-paced environments, managing multiple initiatives and delivering scalable, high-impact solutions under tight timelines.
  • Bachelors degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology or related field and 4 years' experience in an analytics related field.
  • Masters degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology or related field and 2 years' experience in an analytics related field.
  • 6 years' experience in an analytics or related field
