About The Position

As a Staff Data Scientist at Walmart, you will leverage advanced analytical techniques and machine learning to transform complex data into actionable business insights. This role requires expertise in data strategy, model development, validation, and deployment to support key business decisions. About the team: The global fraud data science team develops real-time and batch decisioning services using advanced machine learning and deep learning techniques to address fraud and risk within Walmart Inc. Focused on delivering a safe and seamless shopping experience, the team drives a proactive, outcome-oriented approach that aligns strategically with business goals. It emphasizes real-time decisioning, an adversarial mindset, and operational excellence through MLOps. The team leverages predictive analytics, data strategy, and AI to optimize business value while maintaining robust frameworks that support continuous innovation and effective risk management.

Requirements

  • Proven expertise in data science, including predictive analytics, machine learning and deep learning algorithms, and artificial intelligence applications.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and SQL for data analysis, model development, and automation.
  • Strong knowledge of data strategy, encompassing data quality, governance, storage, and scalability considerations.
  • Experience with advanced data visualization tools and techniques to communicate complex insights effectively.
  • Ability to assess, validate, and tune models using statistical methods and performance metrics.
  • Understanding of business context to translate requirements into actionable data solutions.
  • Skilled in deploying and scaling models in production environments with continuous monitoring.
  • Bachelors degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology or related field and 4 years' experience in an analytics related field.
  • Masters degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology or related field and 2 years' experience in an analytics related field.
  • 6 years' experience in an analytics or related field

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Java or JavaScript is a plus.
  • Data science, machine learning, optimization models, PhD in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Information Technology, Operations Research, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Econometrics
  • Successful completion of one or more assessments in Python, Spark, Scala, or R
  • Using open source frameworks (for example, scikit learn, tensorflow, torch)
