Staff Data Scientist, Grant

Kikoff•San Francisco, CA

About The Position

Kikoff is a profitable, pre-IPO fintech company focused on empowering financial security. Grant is Kikoff's fastest-growing business line, offering earned wage access and developing new products. The Grant data science team is responsible for ensuring Grant's products deliver clear promises, reliable execution, and sustainable business value. This role is for the fourth Data Scientist on the Grant team, embedded full-time with Grant, and will also contribute to the broader Kikoff data team. The position requires leading data work for a product area, setting technical direction and best practices across Kikoff, and defining workflows incorporating AI agents.

Requirements

  • Experience partnering with product, engineering, and marketing peers across strategy, goal setting, approach, and execution.
  • Track record of defining metrics from scratch and getting a team to run on them.
  • Experience designing and running experimentation programs, including changes where clean randomization wasn't available.
  • Comfortable with quasi-experimental and causal inference methods, and clear about their limits.
  • Hands-on with production-quality SQL and Python.
  • Experience building pipelines, analyses, and models yourself.
  • Experience building or working closely with models that drive decisions in a product (ranking, fraud, forecasting, personalization, underwriting, detection).
  • AI tools are a core part of your daily analytical work and you can show how they changed the speed and quality of what you ship.
  • Ability to drive decisions with data in front of executive audiences, including when the data doesn't support the plan.

Nice To Haves

  • Consumer fintech experience, especially products that expand access for un- and under-banked customers.
  • Experience building an experimentation or causal inference practice in an org that didn't have one.
  • Experience taking a model from proof of concept to production, or shipping test and challenger models that changed a product decision.
  • Prior staff or tech-lead scope: set direction for other ICs and owned a domain's data strategy.
  • 8+ years in data science or analytics.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the data work for a Grant product area: set questions, build evidence, and drive next steps.
  • Define and maintain the measurement system for your product area (acquisition, activation, usage, repayment, losses, unit economics).
  • Contribute to the Grant-wide measurement framework.
  • Own product experimentation for your area: design, guardrails, analysis, and recommendations on rollouts and policy changes.
  • Build and evaluate models where they are the right tool, including proof-of-concept and challenger models.
  • Partner with Grant's business lead and area leads on roadmap and objectives.
  • Contribute to technical direction and best practices for data science across Kikoff.
  • Help define how the team works as AI agents become a core part of the analysis loop.
