About The Position

The Staff Data Engineer (BI) collaborates with data engineering teams to onboard data sources for reporting and analytics and works with business leaders to turn ambiguous requirements into scalable data and reporting solutions. The role serves as a subject matter expert for KPI definitions and supports the BI platform strategy, including performance, scalability, and governance of MicroStrategy environments. The position develops and maintains MicroStrategy reports, dashboards, and other BI solutions; applies logical data modeling to reporting needs; and works with data scientists on data used to predict and measure outcomes. It also establishes testing, validation, and documentation procedures, supports BI application customers, identifies software requirements with department managers and executives, and provides end-user training and technical support. This is a 100% remote role for someone residing in the U.S., reporting to headquarters in Murray, Utah.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or U.S. equivalent in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or a related field.
At least 4 years of professional experience as a Business Intelligence Analyst or in an occupation involving relational databases, complex SQL queries, and MicroStrategy reports and dashboards in an enterprise reporting environment.
At least 4 years of professional experience developing MicroStrategy reports and dashboards, including creating metrics and filters.
At least 4 years of professional experience designing and implementing logical data models in MicroStrategy, including attributes, hierarchies, facts, and schema objects.
At least 4 years of professional experience developing and optimizing complex SQL queries in relational databases, using window functions, CTEs, multi-table joins, aggregations, and subqueries for BI and reporting workloads.
At least 4 years of professional experience validating and reconciling data for report accuracy, including identifying and resolving discrepancies between source systems and reporting outputs.
At least 3 years of professional experience with cloud-based data platforms such as GCP, AWS, or Azure, including querying large datasets and supporting BI and reporting workloads.
At least 2 years of professional experience with relational data models and data warehouse environments, including BigQuery or Snowflake, and understanding of fact and dimension structures and partitioned tables.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with data engineering teams to onboard data sources required for reporting and analytics.
Work with business leaders, including Finance, Marketing, and Product, to translate requirements into scalable data and reporting solutions.
Serve as a subject matter expert for KPI definitions and promote alignment across teams and reporting layers.
Support BI platform strategy, including performance optimization, scalability, and governance of MicroStrategy environments.
Analyze business user needs and develop BI reports and dashboards using MicroStrategy.
Work with data scientists to design, develop, or manipulate data to predict and measure outcomes and consequences of design.
Develop BI application testing and validation procedures and provide documentation.
Consult with and support customers on BI application design and maintenance.
Work with department managers and executives to identify needs and software requirements and assess feasibility within time and cost constraints.
Develop, create, and modify general BI application software or specialized utility programs.
Design BI applications for client use with the aim of optimizing operational efficiency.
Modify MicroStrategy reports and dashboards to correct errors, adapt to system changes, or improve performance.
Analyze user requirements and develop graphs, charts, dashboards, and other BI solutions.
Apply logical data modeling concepts, including star schema, 3NF, and dimensional modeling, to reporting solutions in existing data warehouse structures.
Design and deliver end-user training and training materials, and provide technical support as necessary.
