About The Position

GoFundMe is seeking a Staff Data Analyst, Accounting to be the analytical authority for the Accounting and Finance departments. This role involves owning the end-to-end analytical foundation, ensuring data accuracy, developing automated solutions, and driving financial reporting and audit readiness. The ideal candidate will partner with Data Engineering, translate business needs into data requirements, and continuously improve financial insights. This is a domain ownership role for someone who thrives on building rigorous processes and ensuring the trustworthiness of financial data at scale. Candidates must be located in the San Francisco Bay Area and adhere to a 3x weekly in-office requirement.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in data analytics, financial analytics, or a related quantitative role.
  • Background in finance, fintech, or banking, with an understanding of financial data flows and accounting team needs.
  • Experience working with transaction-level financial data and reconciliation processes.
  • Experience working in or alongside audit-driven environments, familiar with building reporting for enterprise or public company standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to own a domain end-to-end with minimal direction.
  • Strong foundation in financial reporting, reconciliation, and accounting concepts.
  • Ability to translate ambiguous business problems into structured analytical frameworks.
  • Ability to think in systems and design processes that prevent recurring issues.
  • Experience automating or replacing manual business processes with scalable data solutions.
  • Skepticism of outputs, with a proactive approach to pressure-testing work and identifying reconciliation gaps.
  • Comfortable working across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Advanced SQL skills, including complex queries, window functions, and performance optimization.
  • Strong experience with data warehousing platforms, particularly Snowflake.
  • Familiarity with dbt or equivalent data transformation tooling.
  • Fluent with modern AI tools for writing SQL, QAing outputs, data exploration, and automating reporting tasks.
  • Strong data visualization and BI skills (Looker preferred).
  • Operates independently, managing relationships, setting priorities, and driving outcomes.
  • Strong communication skills, able to present complex findings clearly to executive audiences.
  • Process-oriented approach, building repeatable and documented solutions.
  • Ability to collaborate cross-departmentally, partnering with Data and Engineering while adhering to Accounting-led priorities.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience at a company that has gone through IPO preparation or significant enterprise scaling.
  • Proficiency in Python or similar for analytical workflows.
  • Familiarity with financial systems (NetSuite, Stripe, Adyen, or similar).
  • Previous experience in FinTech, Payments, or Accounting data environments.
  • Familiarity with GAAP, revenue recognition, and financial close processes.
  • Experience supporting or preparing for SOX compliance, IPO readiness, or external audits.
  • Experience with payments domain concepts (transaction flows, chargebacks, reconciliation, transaction ledger systems, money transmission compliance).
  • Experience translating finance team requirements into data engineering specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Own the financial analytics domain, acting as the go-to analytical authority for Accounting and Finance.
  • Define critical questions, identify relevant data, and establish rigor for trustworthy outputs.
  • Build automation to enhance the speed and accuracy of Accounting processes.
  • Drive financial reporting and audit readiness by building reproducible, traceable, and audit-ready reports.
  • Partner with Data Engineering to translate financial needs into clear data requirements and ensure pipeline integrity.
  • Continuously improve financial insights by identifying reporting gaps, surfacing anomalies, and proactively conducting new analyses.
  • Manage stakeholders across Accounting, Finance, Payments, and Data Engineering, translating between business needs and technical capabilities.
  • Communicate findings clearly to executive audiences.
  • Shape data standards for financial reporting, establishing best practices for data modeling, documentation, and validation.
  • Elevate self-service capabilities for Accounting and Finance teams.
  • Support transaction ledger accuracy and compliance by partnering with Accounting and Engineering.
  • Validate data completeness and integrity at the transaction level.
  • Support regulatory reporting requirements and build monitoring for exceptions.
  • Own data integrity between source systems and NetSuite, monitoring pipelines, investigating reconciliation breaks, and resolving root causes.
