ARA is seeking motivated engineering technicians to participate in pavement testing and transportation infrastructure data collection projects throughout the U.S. The role combines field assignments and office work, with technicians generally spending about 50% of their time traveling and 50% in the office. Travel is typically heavier in spring and summer and lighter in winter; some trips may last weeks, and international project travel may be possible for employees who are interested and available. Technicians learn to operate, calibrate, and maintain modern data collection equipment, and drive or operate van- or trailer-mounted systems used for deflection testing, ground penetrating radar, pavement coring, and pavement friction testing. Office duties include processing, comparing, and analyzing data with proprietary tools and software such as Microsoft Excel. Previous pavement testing experience is not required. ARA describes a continuous-learning environment focused on technical excellence, with support and opportunities for employees to take active roles as owners through the Employee Stock Ownership Plan.
