Responsible for delivering a person-centered ministry of spiritual care, support, and sacraments for patients, families, physicians, and hospital personnel. This role involves providing spiritual care services, consultation, and support, facilitating sacramental ministries, and responding to emergencies and crises. The chaplain also provides support to hospital personnel experiencing difficult situations, assists families with patient care needs and end-of-life processes, and promotes patient safety through reporting and participation in safety initiatives. Additionally, the role involves assisting with Advance Directives, identifying medical ethics issues, and collaborating with senior staff chaplains on patient care planning and interdisciplinary activities. Participation in the department's life and work is crucial for integrated services, including site coverage, working shifts for 24-hour coverage, conducting services, serving on committees, and submitting reports. The chaplain is expected to support the Advocate Mission, Values, and Philosophy, interpret these in their areas of assignment, and support community clergy. Maintaining good standing and ecclesiastical endorsement through active participation in the faith community is also a key aspect of the role.
