About The Position

Okta is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to be a driving force on the Identity Threat Protection (ITP) engineering team. This role involves tackling critical and complex security challenges facing enterprises today, with a focus on designing, building, launching, and scaling world-class security products from concept to global deployment. The team operates in a high-speed, innovative, and autonomous environment, emphasizing individual ownership and agile cycles. The position requires a strong technical foundation, a commitment to quality through automated testing and rigorous code reviews, and the ability to lead and mentor junior engineers. This is an opportunity to work on mission-critical security projects, pioneer emerging technologies, and solve complex security and Machine Learning challenges.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience building Java-based web applications.
  • Deep understanding of design patterns, scalability patterns, security engineering, and object-oriented principles.
  • Experience thriving in fast-paced software development teams that leverage continuous integration and deployment practices.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work across functions.
  • A powerful security background and a proven track record of championing best practices.
  • Ability to access federal environments and/or have access to protected federal data.
  • Must be able to submit documentation establishing U.S. Person status (e.g. a U.S. Citizen, National, Lawful Permanent Resident, Refugee, or Asylee. 22 CFR 120.15) upon hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience building anomaly detection systems or risk systems.
  • Expertise in cloud security, identity, and/or authentication protocols.
  • Hands-on experience with one or more cutting-edge UI technologies such as Angular, ReactJS, Backbone, and Vue.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and Lead the design, development, delivery, and supportability of cloud-native security products from initial concept to final, production-ready implementation.
  • Drive collaboration by building solid, cross-group partnerships and demonstrating exceptional interpersonal communication with engineering, product management, design, support, and documentation teams.
  • Uphold excellence by committing to the highest programming standards through rigorous code reviews and the creation of comprehensive unit and functional tests.
  • Lead remote teams, ensuring product quality, agility, and velocity.
  • Act as a player-coach to mentor, groom, and educate junior engineers.
