Staff Backend Engineer,

Rythm Health
•Remote

About The Position

Behind every Rythm member experience is a network of systems connecting our product, laboratory, logistics, and operations. As a Staff Backend Engineer, you’ll help build and strengthen that foundation. You’ll take ownership of complex projects from the first technical decisions through launch and whatever comes next. Since we’re a small team, you’ll work directly with people across the business and have a clear view of how the things you build affect our members and the teams supporting them. We’re looking for someone who can look at a messy problem, figure out what actually matters, and build a solution that works today without creating headaches down the road. You’ll have a real voice in our backend architecture and engineering practices, but this is still very much a hands-on role. You’ll spend most of your time designing systems, writing code, and improving the platform alongside the rest of the team.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience designing, building and owning backend systems at scale.
  • A proven track record of owning complex, cross-functional initiatives.
  • Experience integrating internal systems and third-party platforms across complex business workflows.
  • Strong understanding of testing, observability, performance, security, and production operations.
  • The ability to move between long-term architecture and immediate delivery needs.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both technical and nontechnical partners.
  • A hands-on mindset; you enjoy building and want to remain close to the technical work.
  • High ownership, low ego, and comfort operating in a fast-moving environment with evolving priorities.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous time spent within healthcare, consumer health, or direct to consumer businesses is preferred.
  • A strong understanding of regulated products and navigating sensitive data is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and own reliable backend services and APIs that support Rythm's products and internal operations.
  • Own complex projects from technical discovery and architecture through implementation, launch and iteration.
  • Build systems that connect member experiences with laboratory, logistics, billing, analytics, and other operational workflows.
  • Make architectural decisions that balance delivery speed, maintainability, performance, security, and scale.
  • Improve service reliability through thoughtful testing, observability, incident response, and operational practices.
  • Partner with mobile and product engineers to define clear contracts, scalable data flows, and dependable integrations.
  • Identify technical risks and reduce unnecessary complexity across the platform.
  • Help establish and evolve development standards and tools as the engineering team continues to grow.
  • Use modern development tools, including AI-assisted workflows, to increase engineering quality and speed.

Benefits

  • A highly competitive base salary.
  • Meaningful equity aligned with the scope and impact of your role.
  • A monthly Rythm membership with full access to at-home blood testing and personalized health insights.
  • High ownership and visibility from day one, with the ability to make a meaningful impact.
  • The chance to help shape the future of personalized health and preventative care.
  • Flexible, remote-first work environment.
  • A generous paid time off policy.
  • 401(k).
  • Multiple healthcare plan options, with select plans fully covered by Rythm.
