About The Position

Redwire Defense Tech is seeking an experienced Autonomy/AI Software Engineer with a strong background in optimization algorithms, embedded systems, and safety-critical software development, along with deep expertise in C++ and C# for high-performance applications. The Staff Autonomy Integration Engineer will focus on designing and implementing a new architecture that enables advanced algorithms to seamlessly integrate with autonomy products. The solutions developed will be deployed on operational aircraft supporting global missions, requiring robust, reliable, and safety-focused software engineering.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in open systems, preferably within aerospace or unmanned robotics domains.
  • Proficiency in C++ and Python for embedded software development.
  • Experience working in Linux environments and with Docker containerization.
  • Familiarity with communication standards and frameworks such as STANAG, DDS, REST, gRPC, and/or Kafka.
  • Demonstrated ownership and accountability in solving complex problems within dynamic, high-stakes environments.
  • Ability to work independently and take full ownership of technical challenges and deliverables.
  • Strong experience documenting processes and maintaining quality in regulated or safety-critical environments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a strong customer-focused mindset.

Nice To Haves

  • Understanding of unmanned systems or robotics architectures.
  • Understanding of flight-critical and mission-critical software requirements.
  • Knowledge of flight behavior and aircraft performance principles.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with implementation of the onboard autonomy agent on a Jetson processor, integrating it with the aircraft’s mission system.
  • Develop customer-facing SDKs and integration kits to support extension and adaptation of the autonomy system.
  • Build and maintain an ecosystem of utilities, software, and tools for robotics and autonomous systems using both proprietary and commercially available technologies.
  • Create and maintain documentation and supporting materials for mission systems, SDKs, and associated software and hardware.
  • Debug, troubleshoot, and resolve issues in embedded environments, ensuring software meets high safety and performance standards.
  • Maintain rigorous documentation and version control for safety-critical systems, supporting audits and compliance requirements.
