This position is designated as Exempt Policy-Making under G.S. 126-5(c)(3) and is considered an at-will appointment. The Office of the State Auditor is seeking a skeptical, innovative, and motivated analyst who is familiar with public policy, program evaluation, and research methods. This position gives you the opportunity to keep state government accountable by increasing transparency, efficiency, and accountability. Job requires flexible problem-solving and willingness to continually learn. This position is within the Division of Accountability, Value, and Efficiency, a cross-function division that provides independent, objective, and relevant audits using program evaluation standards, data analytics, and investigative practices. The division was created under Session Law 2025-89 as a special task forced assigned to tackle some of the most pressing issues in North Carolina state government operations. The performance audits and special reports released by the division offer actionable insights and vital information to decision-makers in state government. These reports aim to highlight problems and offer tangible solutions to the public, program leadership, and elected officials. As a part of our team, you will get to: • Participate in the planning of auditee meetings to discuss audit scope, potential findings of interest, and what would make the audit most beneficial to the decision-makers involved • Gain an understanding of various entities, and/or programs that are being audited by the DAVE Division • Develop the elements of the report finding, including additional context, data analysis, visualization, and communication • Review collected data, documentation, and records to draw insights for senior team members
