About The Position

The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is seeking a highly talented individual to join the Division of Audit as a Staff Auditor I. This role involves performing professional audit work under the direction of senior auditors, focusing on MaineCare Providers and Community Agencies that receive state and federal funds through contracts with DHHS. The position offers opportunities for professional growth through acquiring knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and Federal grants. The DHHS is dedicated to promoting health, safety, resilience, and opportunity for Maine people, providing essential health and social services and overseeing healthcare providers.

Requirements

  • Six (6) years of practical, progressively responsible accounting or auditing experience at the professional level, or
  • Hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field or
  • Meet the requirements to sit for the Certified Public Accountant’s Examination (at least 150 semester hours of education, including a minimum 4-year baccalaureate or higher degree conferred by a college or university acceptable to the board, and shall consist of at least 15 hours of accounting, auditing and ethics (which must include at least three hours of auditing and three hours of accounting)).

Responsibilities

  • Perform professional audit work under direction of senior auditors on MaineCare Providers and Community Agencies who receive state and federal funds through contracts with DHHS.
  • Complete financial and/or compliance audits for conformance to established laws, rules, regulations and standards.
  • Acquire knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and Federal grants.
