Temporary Staff Attorney (part-time)-Microbusiness and Nonprofit Support Program
About The Position
San Diego Volunteer Lawyer Program (SDVLP) is seeking a part-time Staff Attorney for its Microbusiness and Nonprofit Support Program (MNSP). This program provides legal assistance and education to low-income entrepreneurs, microbusinesses, and nonprofit organizations in San Diego County. The Staff Attorney will offer legal counsel on transactional matters, recruit and manage pro bono attorneys, conduct community outreach, provide legal education, and supervise non-attorney staff. SDVLP, established in 1983, is the oldest and most comprehensive pro bono legal services program in San Diego County, dedicated to ensuring equal access to justice for disadvantaged individuals.
Requirements
- Member in good standing of the California Bar
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent mentorship and teaching skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to successfully work as part of a team, and with the public, volunteers, court personnel, government agencies, and partner organizations
- Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments with accuracy and minimal direction
- Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends as required by events and deadlines
- Excellent Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint skills
- Demonstrated commitment to serving low-income and disadvantaged people
- Ability to occasionally travel to SDVLP’s other offices throughout San Diego County, as necessary
Responsibilities
- Mentoring, training, and supervising pro bono attorneys
- Recruiting new pro bono attorney volunteers through community outreach and attendance at networking events
- Developing and maintaining written training materials for pro bono attorneys
- Coordinating clinics with community partners to assist low-income entrepreneurs and nonprofit organizations
- Training and supervising non-attorney staff
- Managing and compiling statistical data
- Assisting with the drafting of narrative reports to funding sources, and ensuring grant deliverables are met
- Engaging in other tasks and projects as needed to further SDVLP’s mission
