Staff Attorney 15/16 (Public Service Division)
About The Position
This position serves as an entry-level attorney (15/16 level) within the Public Service Division, working under the general supervision of the Division Chief or First Assistant. The role involves representing the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) at designated meetings and administrative hearings, appearing on behalf of the MPSC in state and federal courts, providing daily legal counsel to MPSC staff, and responding to citizen complaints and inquiries. The 15 level requires no specific type or amount of experience beyond a Juris Doctorate. The 16 level is a senior attorney role that provides legal advice and representation to the MPSC and its staff in public utility matters. This can involve complex litigation in administrative and court proceedings, potentially dealing with novel legal issues, significant social impact, or substantial financial implications for the state's citizens. The 16 level requires four years of post-bar admission legal experience.
Requirements
- Possession of a Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited school of law.
- Membership in good standing in the Michigan State Bar.
- Four years of post-bar admission legal experience (for the 16 level).

Responsibilities
