About The Position

Atlanta Legal Aid Society (“Legal Aid”) seeks a Staff Attorney for its Fulton County Office located in Downtown Atlanta. Our non-profit law firm represents low-income persons in a variety of civil legal matters, including family, housing, consumer, employment, health, public benefits, and education law. The Fulton Office provides advice and representation to persons in Fulton County in a variety of legal matters including tenant protection, benefits (income and healthcare), consumer protection, public school education, and family law. In addition to direct client services, the office provides advice through the Fulton County Family Law Information Center.

Requirements

Active member in good standing in the State Bar of Georgia (strongly preferred), or eligible to sit for the next Georgia Bar exam.
Minimum of three years of relevant legal experience.
Excellent legal writing, analysis, advocacy, and work ethic are required.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, listening, and organizational skills.
Ability to balance compassion and pragmatism.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a collaborative, hybrid team model.

Nice To Haves

Demonstrated commitment to public service, participation in law school clinics or trial advocacy courses, familiarity with poverty law, previous work with low-income people, and an appreciation for diversity are strongly preferred.
Proficiency in languages other than English, particularly Spanish, is highly valued.

Responsibilities

Handling a mixed caseload using a variety of advocacy methods including transactional work, negotiation, mediation, and litigation.
Participating in community education, task forces, committees, social service organizations, national and local bar associations.
Other tasks as assigned.
