About The Position

This is a full-time position for a Young Life Staff Associate in Carlsbad, California. The role involves building relationships with students, recruiting and developing volunteer leaders, and working within a supportive staff team. The position offers formal training and hands-on ministry experience to help individuals grow as leaders while impacting middle and high school students. The Carlsbad ministry has established programs at Carlsbad High School, Sage Creek High School, and Aviara Oaks Middle School. The ideal candidate is passionate about relational ministry, spends significant time with students, is relational, self-motivated, teachable, and eager to help students meet and grow in their faith in Jesus Christ.

Requirements

  • Experience in direct ministry.
  • Proven relational skills with both kids and adults.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Must profess a belief in Jesus Christ as personal Savior and Lord.
  • Must subscribe to the statements and policies required of all Young Life staff, including the Young Life Statement of Faith.
  • Must be ready, willing, and able to fulfill ministry functions required by the organization.
  • Must refrain from conduct and statements that detract from the biblical standards taught and supported by Young Life.
  • Must abide by all policies and practices of Young Life, including those related to religious belief or ministry activities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a yearly personal growth plan that fosters a vibrant spiritual life, including solitude, retreat, reflection, prayer, and commitment to understanding God's Word.
  • Seek and maintain relationships and disciplines within an active church community and the Young Life community.
  • Lead teams and individuals in spiritual development.
  • Meet regularly with volunteer leaders and area leadership.
  • Recruit and train new leaders to build a leadership team that reflects the community.
  • Model excellence in contact work, club, Campaigners, and camping for other leaders.
  • Assist in training leaders, team leaders, and committee members on effective teamwork and developing a yearly ministry strategy.
  • Raise financial support as directed and maintain good donor care practices.
  • Communicate ministry updates and progress to personal donor partners.
  • Network and develop strategic relationships with key adults in the community, such as principals, pastors, parents, and potential committee members.
  • Plan and execute area fundraising events under the direction of an area supervisor and committee.
  • Actively engage in all three levels of contact work.
  • Lead a team to plan and conduct a new or existing Young Life club and Campaigners/discipleship ministry with excellence.
  • Lead a team to implement a summer and school-season camping strategy for a ministry.
  • Serve on a summer assignment at a Young Life camp each year.
  • Adhere to all Young Life policies and procedures, maintaining professionalism in office hours, dress, conduct, and time management.
  • Manage finances with stewardship, accountability, and transparency using mission-wide applications.
  • Maintain accurate information on kids, leaders, and donors for area records.
  • Provide clear, prompt, appropriate, and professional communication to all involved in ministry.
  • Set yearly strategic ministry plans and initiatives to reach every kid, reviewing them regularly.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and congruent with gifts, experience, and area needs.
  • Complete Core Training (Phase One, Leadership I, Leadership II, Apologetics, and one Winter Training course) within the first two years.
  • Participate in regional training meetings and ministry skills training assigned by the area director.
