About The Position

The Gilchrist County Board of County Commissioners is accepting applications for a full-time Staff Assistant / Permitting Clerk within the Building & Zoning Department. This position is responsible for providing administrative and customer service support while assisting the public with permitting and zoning-related processes. The ideal candidate will possess strong clerical and organizational skills, excellent customer service abilities, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced office environment.

Requirements

  • Experience as a Staff Assistant, Office Clerk, or similar administrative role
  • Strong customer service and public interaction experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize daily duties efficiently
  • Typing speed of at least 55 words per minute
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and time-management skills
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving abilities
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver’s license

  • Experience with permitting, zoning, or building department processes

Responsibilities

  • Answer phones and assist the public professionally and courteously
  • Assist customers with permitting applications and procedures
  • Support the Building Official with plan review processes
  • Handle correspondence, emails, and phone calls promptly
  • Schedule inspections for the Building Official
  • Accept and reconcile payments
  • Perform general administrative and clerical duties as assigned
