Bargaining Unit: UUP Job Summary: The Department of Clinical Laboratories at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time TH Staff Assistant 2, Pathology/Laboratory Services. The successful candidate will: Process and handle specimens in Central Receiving Area, including logging and tracking of specimens in Laboratory Information Systems. Provide ancillary support for the operation of the Anatomic Pathology Division of Laboratories. Coordinate and manage the receipt and distribution of daily mail and other records among the laboratory sections. Participate in departmental and hospital requirements of quality management, quality control, patient safety, continuing education and other aspects, as needed. Ensure the recording, maintenance and retrieval of records in compliance with hospital and departmental policies Demonstrate flexibility as the duties and responsibilities are not limited to the above description.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior administrative and/or laboratory work experience with strong computer skills, e.g. Microsoft Office Suite with Word and Excel required.
  • Or, a satisfactory equivalent combination of experience, education and training to the above.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate Degree or equivalent experience in a hospital and/or laboratory setting preferred.
