About The Position

GCC & Associates LLC is seeking a Staff Architect to provide construction management, project management, and commissioning support for a portfolio of Non-Recurring Maintenance (NRM) projects at the Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System (CAVHCS). This role involves overseeing projects such as replacing the central boiler plant, renovating buildings and pathology spaces, replacing fire alarm systems, correcting plumbing issues, and mitigating electrical hazards. The Staff Architect will be assigned to a specific project, providing project management, scheduling, cost and change order control, and reviewing submittals and requests for information. The position also includes running quality assurance inspections, constructability and phasing reviews, and safety and code compliance monitoring. Close coordination with facility staff is essential to ensure construction does not disrupt hospital operations, utilities, or patient access. The team oversees commissioning and startup of new systems to ensure projects are fully tested, documented, and ready for turnover to the VA over the next five years.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Architecture from an accredited school of higher education.
  • Minimum of six (6) years of experience in both design and construction.
  • Ability to quickly understand and master the requirements of local state and federal jurisdictions.
  • Skilled in code and other regulatory requirements including environmental and historical applications.
  • Knowledge of Construction Contract Documents including Front End and Technical Specifications and Drawings to assess requirements of materials and methods.

Responsibilities
