About The Position

Arcadis is seeking a mid-level Staff Archaeologist/Cultural Resources Specialist to join their cultural resources practice in the Midwest. This role involves conducting archaeological field work for various projects, including site identification, data recovery, and monitoring. Responsibilities include shovel testing, pedestrian surveys, site documentation, and preparing technical reports. The position requires knowledge and experience working in Ohio and surrounding states at both federal and state levels. The candidate will collaborate with the Arcadis cultural resources team and the environmental permitting team. This is a hybrid position, requiring both field and office work, with approximately 50-60% expected field work, including potential overnight travel.

Requirements

  • Meets the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualifications Standards in archaeology
  • Master’s degree in archaeology or a related field
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in cultural resources management, with a combination of field- and office-based experience and roles
  • Demonstrated experience supervising archaeological field crews and running field projects
  • Demonstrated practical field experience in the U.S. specifically Ohio and surrounding states
  • Working knowledge of GPS systems and the collection of field data
  • Basic knowledge of cultural resources management and Section 106
  • Ability to walk and conduct fieldwork for long hours
  • Ability to carry supplies weighing up to 40 pounds
  • Ability to work in the field under a range of conditions (e.g., rugged and unfamiliar terrain, remote locations, hot and cold temperatures)

Nice To Haves

  • Qualified Principal Investigator (PI) in Ohio and surrounding states, or the ability to become a PI in these states

Responsibilities

  • Conduct archaeological field work for multiple projects at all levels of investigation, from site identification to data recovery, and archaeological monitoring.
  • Work on projects that require shovel testing, pedestrian surveys, and site documentation.
  • Prepare technical reports and documents.
  • Apply technical knowledge to support archaeological services over a range of sectors, including linear utilities, oil and gas, mining, rail and transit, and renewable energies.
  • Conduct archaeological fieldwork, including archaeological monitoring.
  • Prepare technical documents.
  • Lead cultural resources surveys.
  • Manage archaeological field staff and field crews, as appropriate.
  • Author technical documents and provide survey details and results to project teams.
