About The Position

Corning Advanced-Flow Reactor™ (AFR) is a global leader in end-to-end flow chemical processing for pharma, fine chemicals, agrochemicals, specialty chemicals, and high-performance materials industries. AFR technology is changing the way chemicals are produced, enabling more efficient and safer processing. AFR is looking for an application engineer for the North American market. The Application Engineer serves as the technical contact between the customer and Corning, actively participating in chemical process development, collaborating with the team to define equipment and processes, and ensuring smooth implementation of the process at the customer's site.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, or related discipline
  • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in chemical synthesis with a strong experimental background
  • Proven experience in safety planning, including safety assessments and creating safety plans
  • Experience with a variety of chemical analytical methods
  • Skilled in structured experiment planning and execution
  • Ability to work autonomously and proactively at customer sites
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills; rigorous and well-organized
  • Strong interpersonal and networking skills in a multicultural environment
  • Hands-on technical problem-solving skills
  • Flexibility/adaptability to unexpected situations/behavior/working subjects
  • Resilient and copes well with stressful situations
  • Leadership and negotiation skills
  • Up to 75% travel required

Responsibilities

  • Understand current and prospective customers' chemistry and products, value proposition, and needs. Align their needs with Corning's technical capabilities.
  • Engage with Corning scientists and engineers to demonstrate the feasibility of key chemical steps and actively participate in experiments.
  • Provide sales support, including technical visits to customer sites, product presentations, technical offers, attending trade shows as a visitor or exhibitor, and writing/contributing to scientific research papers.
  • Perform Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT)/Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), installation, education & training, commissioning, and startup of reactors, dosing lines, and downstream operations.
  • Support customers with paperwork and procedures, including helping design IQ/OQ plans and developing FAT/SAT.
  • Support debugging and ramping up manufacturing to expected performance. Collect customer feedback and fix issues.
  • Act as a liaison between customer requirements and internal specialists (Engineering department, R&D, sales, sales support, quality) to ensure seamless coordination.
  • Share information gathered from customers/on-site to relevant teams, including insights for AFR product and offering roadmap.
  • Contribute to the elaboration of operating procedure manuals for the equipment.
  • Develop and write Application Notes to support customers.
