About The Position

EcoVadis is seeking a Staff AI/ML Scientist focused on Conversational AI to join its AI Center of Excellence, a team of more than 20 scientists and engineers building solutions across the product portfolio and improving operational excellence. The role will transform how users interact with complex enterprise data by developing goal-oriented, multi-step conversational agents for use cases including sustainable procurement, supply chain resilience, and decarbonisation. The scientist will design and test state-aware, multi-turn conversational systems using LLM reasoning approaches and agent orchestration frameworks; apply recent advances in generative and agentic AI; and deliver end-to-end AI solutions using Python, MLflow, Azure technologies, and Databricks. The role also involves leading initiatives and functional teams, mentoring colleagues, working closely with customers and cross-functional partners, and applying relevant technology trends to EcoVadis’s challenges. The position is available to candidates eligible to work and live in Spain. It is hybrid in Barcelona, with two days per week in the office, or fully remote from Spain.

Requirements

PhD or Master’s degree in a quantitative discipline, such as Statistics/Applied Math, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, or Computational Linguistics.
At least 8 years of overall experience in machine learning and Natural Language Processing (NLP), including at least 4 years specializing in Conversational AI in production environments.
Advanced knowledge of agentic frameworks and a proven track record building autonomous or semi-autonomous agentic systems at scale.
Experience leading end-to-end AI initiatives in industry, from design to implementation to integration, and applying sound software development practices.
Excellent mentoring skills and accountability for high-quality, timely delivery of initiatives.
Experience collaborating cross-functionally on AI-powered products, for example with engineers and product managers.
Eligibility to work and live in Spain.

Nice To Haves

Experience building conversational interfaces over complex enterprise domains such as supply chain, procurement, or financial risk.
Peer-reviewed publications in top-tier NLP/AI venues such as ACL, EMNLP, NeurIPS, AAAI, or KDD.

Responsibilities

Design and test multi-turn, state-aware conversational systems using LLM reasoning loops such as ReAct and Plan-and-Solve, and multi-agent orchestration frameworks such as LangGraph, AutoGen, or custom state machines.
Adapt new frameworks and advances in generative and agentic AI.
Promote AI/ML best practices and mentor junior team members.
Lead functional teams and initiatives to accelerate adoption of Conversational AI.
Use Python, MLflow, Azure technologies, and Databricks to build, benchmark, and maintain AI/ML models and deliver end-to-end AI solutions.
Stay in close contact with customers to evaluate their needs and recommend solutions that improve customer satisfaction and business value.
Monitor technology trends, including in AI, and apply relevant knowledge to EcoVadis’s challenges.
Lead end-to-end AI initiatives in industry, from design through implementation and integration.
