At General Motors, our product teams are redefining mobility. Through a human-centered design process, we create vehicles and experiences that are designed not just to be seen, but to be felt. We’re turning today’s impossible into tomorrow’s standard —from breakthrough hardware and battery systems to intuitive design, intelligent software, and next-generation safety and entertainment features. Every day, our products move millions of people as we aim to make driving safer, smarter, and more connected, shaping the future of transportation on a global scale. The Role We are seeking a creative and highly technical Staff Systems Safety Engineer to lead ADAS system safety for ADAS sensors, controllers, and key Software Defined Vehicle hardware such as Ethernet switches and IVI boards. In this role, you will apply deep functional safety expertise and system-level thinking to develop hardware safety cases supporting ADAS features from L1 to L4, helping advance GM’s vision of Zero Crashes, Zero Emissions, and Zero Congestion. You will provide technical leadership to a team of 7–8 System Safety Engineers, setting direction and ensuring delivery of safety cases and aligned safety deliverables across the VDP process to meet vehicle program deadlines. This position also includes leading safety and technical reviews with PRB members and partners, guiding complex problem-solving, and driving issue resolution across global and GMNA cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate brings strong project planning, independent judgment, and a deep understanding of hardware design, software implementation, and safety-driven solution development.
