About The Position

The Staff Accountant combines core accounting responsibilities with operational analysis and process improvement, with a particular focus on costing, inventory and manufacturing activity. This role partners closely with Production and Finance leadership to understand how products and materials move through the business, ensure that activity is accurately reflected in the financial records, and develop better controls, models, and processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
  • Three (3) to six (6) years of accounting experience required.
  • Strong accounting fundamentals, including inventory, cost of goods sold, journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end close.
  • Curious, forensic mindset with a desire to investigate discrepancies, trace transactions, and identify root causes
  • Critical thinker who asks why, seeks to understand how processes work and looks for better ways to measure what is happening.
  • Strong analytical and financial modeling skills; proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required.
  • Comfortable partnering with Production and other departments; able to communicate questions, findings, and ideas constructively.
  • Self-starter able to manage multiple priorities and carry improvements from problem identification through implementation.
  • Experience with ERP systems required.

  • Cost accounting experience preferred
  • experience in a manufacturing or production environment is a plus.
  • experience with Microsoft Dynamics Business Central is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with Production and Finance leadership to understand inventory flows and improve related controls and processes.
  • Analyze and model product and material movement, including purchases, internal transfers, production activity, and sales.
  • Investigate inventory cycle-count discrepancies to identify root causes and recommend corrective actions.
  • Review effects of sales BOMs on profitability and ensure completeness of billing.
  • Develop financial models and reports to measure operational activity and the financial impact of process changes.
  • Support sales quotes by providing cost, margin, and other financial inputs.
  • Partner with IT and business users to enhance ERP functionality, reporting, data integrity, and controls.
  • Perform account reconciliations related to receivables, payables, and other key balances.
  • Identify process and control improvements and work with Finance and Production to implement practical solutions.
  • Validate new processes and system changes to ensure they produce the intended accounting and operational results.
  • Work directly with coworkers in Production to understand how transactions and physical product movement occur in practice.
  • Support Finance leadership on special projects and other evolving responsibilities.
  • Review inventory movements and exceptions with Production and follow identified issues through resolution.
  • Support cycle counts and physical inventory activities and investigate differences.
  • Analyze cost, usage, yield, and product-movement trends to identify anomalies and opportunities for improvement.
  • Build and refine models for changes to purchasing, internal movement, production, and sales processes.
  • Test and validate ERP changes, transaction flows, reports, and related controls.
  • Document new or revised procedures and controls so processes are clear, measurable, and repeatable.
  • Assist Director of Finance & Accounting Manager with other duties assigned.
  • Support month-end close, including journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
  • Reconcile customer consignment accounts to ensure completeness of documented sales transactions.
  • Analyze inventory and manufacturing variances and provide actionable insights on significant changes or trends.
  • Assist with monthly financial reporting, audit requests, and preparation of "Prepared by Client" schedules.
