We currently have an exciting career opportunity for a Staff Accountant to join the Family Office team in our Jupiter office. CohnReznick is a hybrid firm and most of our professionals are located within a commutable distance to one of our offices. This position is considered hybrid which means team members are expected to be thoughtful and intentional in how they create opportunities for in-person collaboration. While the cadence of in-office presence is determined at the team level, our professionals are encouraged to be in the office/together in person on average 3 days a week. YOUR TEAM. The Staff Accountant is responsible for owning the full-cycle accounting function for assigned clients. Building on foundational bookkeeping, this role applies accounting judgment, makes adjusting entries, prepares and/or reviews financial reports while serving as initial contact for review of reports with clients. The Staff Accountant ensures books are complete, accurate, reconciled, review‑ready, supports internal and external teams, and begins to provide insights into client financial activity.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of bookkeeping or accounting experience; public accounting or family office experience preferred
  • Strong understanding of entity‑based accounting and month‑end close processes
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel
  • QuickBooks Desktop and Online
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
  • Ability to explain financial information to non‑accountants

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance preferred, but not required
  • Experience working with HNW individuals or multi-entity structures
  • Familiarity with investment activity tracking

Responsibilities

  • Act as primary accounting contact for assigned clients, delivering professional, discreet, and highly responsive service while proactively taking full ownership of assigned work
  • Take ownership of client deliverables, timelines, and work quality
  • Communicate directly with clients, personnel, and external advisors to resolve accounting questions
  • Proactively identify missing information, risks, or inconsistencies and drive resolution – works to ensure proper internal controls
  • Client cash flow management/projection, maximizing yield on cash accounts, evaluates client existing debt with consideration toward paying down debt or need for additional borrowing
  • Understand engagement terms and work performed
  • Teamwork is critical to success - collaborate with internal teams (bookkeeping, tax, advisory, etc) to support coordinated deliverables
  • Oversees full‑cycle bookkeeping for clients and engagements
  • Prepare and post adjusting journal entries, including accruals, depreciation, amortization, and reclasses
  • Analyze general ledgers across personal, operating, and investment accounts
  • Reconcile bank, credit card, and investment statements, independently resolving discrepancies
  • Track complex intercompany and owner activity (capital, loans, reimbursements, distributions)
  • Review monthly and quarterly financial statements, cash flow analysis, and supporting schedules
  • Prepare and post fair market value (FMV) adjustment entries for private equity and alternative investments based on client-specific instructions, capital account statements, or investment reporting received from fund managers.
  • Analyze and reconcile investment activity, including contributions, distributions, income allocations, and ending capital balances to support accurate financial reporting and tax compliance.
  • Prepare detailed workpapers to support individual, gift, trust, entity tax returns, and obtain client tax documents
  • Support year‑end close and tax planning initiatives
  • Oversee preparation of Forms 1099, sales tax, payroll tax, and informational filings as applicable
  • Respond to tax team questions by explaining accounting activity and underlying transactions
  • Reconcile year-end tax reporting documents, including Forms 1099-INT, 1099-DIV, 1099-B, and Schedule K-1s to client accounting records and investment activity.
  • Review work performed by Bookkeepers for accuracy, completeness, and firm standards
  • Ensure books are review‑ready prior to senior or manager review
  • Maintain audit‑supporting documentation and organized client files, including invoices, agreements, and source records, ensuring information in readily available for internal review and external requests
