About The Position

Under the direction of the Controller, the Staff Accountant will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting the GL and daily accounting operations, while ensuring compliance with GAAP, local, state and federal regulations and financial standards, reconciling accounts and assisting in the preparation of essential reports.

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
  • 2+ years of accounting experience, including cost accounting, within the wine industry
  • Proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks, NetSuite, or similar) and advanced Excel
  • Exceptional oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Astute time management, attention to detail, accuracy, analytical, organizational, planning, multi-tasking, problem-solving and follow-through skills
  • Ability to work effectively alone, within a collaborative team environment

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Experience with Vintrace and Commerce 7
  • Familiarity with TTB regulations, excise taxes and winery-specific practices

Responsibilities

  • Perform AP and AR functions
  • Perform monthly, quarterly and annual bank, credit card, vendor and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Assist with GL activities to include tracking, verifying and recording daily journal entries and account reconciliations
  • Support month-end and year-end close processes by preparing accruals, journal entries and financial statements, e.g., balance sheets, income statements and cash-flow reports
  • Perform cost accounting for wine production, tracking and allocating costs for estate grapes, bulk wine, barrel aging, bottling/finished goods and calculating variances and overhead
  • Support Controller with inventory accounting and reconciliations for vineyard fruit, cellar stock and case goods
  • Assist in the process of analyzing production costs, inventory reserves and variances
  • Provide actionable reports to winemaking, vineyard and leadership teams
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, pricing decisions and excise tax filings (federal and state)
  • Assist with audits, process improvements and special projects by gathering necessary financial data and documentation for auditors
  • Mentor junior staff and contribute to a collaborative, dynamic, family-oriented work environment
