About The Position

This is a temporary contract role for 3 months, reporting to the Director of Finance. The Staff Accountant will be responsible for month-end closing procedures and preparing for the annual audit. Key responsibilities include assisting with audit preparation, preparing financial operation statements and reports, managing journal entries and month-end functions, maintaining system accounts and controls, ensuring accurate data for accounting reports, actively participating in clean internal and external audit reports, overseeing the income audit with support, participating in inventory processes, and assisting with banking and credit card processes, payments, and reconciliations. The role also requires adherence to all safety policies, hotel systems, internal controls, and departmental procedures.

Requirements

  • Professional designation or acceptable university degree with an appropriate specialization in Finance is preferable
  • Hotel finance experience at a management level preferred
  • Computer literate in Microsoft Windows applications or relevant computer applications required
  • Knowledge of OPERA, point of sale systems, and hotel systems preferred
  • University/College degree in a related discipline an asset
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal and problem solving abilities
  • Highly responsible & reliable to work on own and also as a team

Responsibilities

  • Assist in compiling and preparing for the annual audit.
  • Assist in the preparation of Financial operation statements and reports in accordance with Corporate Policy/Procedure
  • Journal Entries and month-end functions
  • Maintain system accounts and controls, providing accurate data necessary for all required accounting reports and statements
  • Actively involved in ensuring clean internal and external audit reports
  • Oversee and manage income audit with support of the Director of Finance.
  • Participate in the inventory process
  • Participate in the banking and credit card processes, payments, and reconciliations
  • Follow all safety policies and maintain a safe work environment
  • Adhere to all hotel systems and internal controls.
  • Follow departmental policies and procedures.
  • Any other tasks that may be assigned
