About The Position

The Staff Accountant position requires extensive knowledge of reinsurance accounting, contracts, and procedures. The role uses this expertise to identify technical issues, resolve complex reinsurance matters, and complete detailed reconciliations. The accountant prepares and settles monthly and quarterly accounts, reviews reinsurance premium and loss subledger balances, and prepares ceded reinsurance financial reports. The position also works with internal teams and third parties on billings, collections, discrepancies, inquiries, and audit requests.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business.
• One to three years of reinsurance accounting experience.
• Ability to identify areas for process improvement.
• Ability to analyze large data sets to identify and resolve complex issues.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
• Proven ability to work independently and take ownership of responsibilities.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

• Insurance designations such as ARe or CPCU.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and PeopleSoft.
• FIRST knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, disburse, and settle monthly and quarterly accounts in accordance with contract agreements, using process automation.
• Work with internal teams and third parties to verify receipt of billings, initiate collection of open balances according to established procedures, respond to queries, resolve receivable and payable discrepancies, and escalate unresolved collection issues.
• Review the reinsurance premium and loss subledger monthly to ensure accurate account balances and formulate action plans to resolve aged balances.
• Resolve issues and answer queries regarding reinsurers’ statements, certificates, or related entries in reinsurance premium and loss systems.
• Prepare monthly and quarterly ceded reinsurance financial reports as needed and provide commentary on various reports for senior management.
• Respond to ad hoc requests from internal and external customers, including audit requests.
